THE FLOWERS ON THE ALTAR TODAY are presented with praise to God for the humor and laughter in our lives. – Jan and Dale Ward

OUR HEARTFELT SYMPATHY goes to the family of Bill White, who passed away Monday, October 6th at the age of 91. Bill, his wife Betty and children Marybeth, Spike and Kathy were a part of our congregation from 1959 to 1991 before moving to Cherokee, TX where Betty still resides.

FALL FESTIVAL will take place in Friends Center on Friday, October 31st from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Parents and kids of all ages are invited to come enjoy games, prizes, hotdogs, nachos, popcorn and lots of fun! Wear your costume (not too scary, please). Everything is FREE; donations will be accepted. VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED! Please contact Janet Black at 281-482-7821 if you would like to help.

OCTOBER IS PASTOR APPRECIATION MONTH! The Clerk and Coordinators encourage you to take time to let our pastors know how much their ministry means to you. For the past several years we have had a tradition of “showering” our pastors with gift cards to local businesses. A card or a thoughtful note would also be a great way to express your appreciation. And, don’t forget to lift up our pastors in prayer on a regular basis.

“CARS AND CUPCAKES” Hunter and Kayla Lee are giving leadership to a new ministry of helping to provide routine automobile maintenance (oil and filter changes, replacing belts, etc.) to people in our church who are in financial need – such as the elderly, widows, single parents, young families, etc. This service will be provided quarterly, with the first opportunity coming up on Saturday, October 18th. If you are interested, fill out one of the forms on the kiosk and place it in the “Service Needs” mailbox located in the foyer of the Worship Center. Hunter will prioritize the requests based on need and will call the week ahead to schedule appointments. Labor is free, but participants will need to bring their own parts, such as oil, filters, and belts. Hunter is able to give guidance about the parts that are needed when setting up the appointment. Kayla will provide light refreshments for you to enjoy while your car is being worked on. Please pray for God’s blessing on this new ministry!

SAVE THE DATE! Our annual Thanksgiving dinner will take place on Sunday, November 23rd at 5:00 p.m. in the Coffee Café. This will be a catered traditional Thanksgiving meal with turkey, ham and all the trimmings as well as pie for dessert. The cost is $15 for teens and adults and $10 for children ages 5-12. Tickets will be available beginning on November 9th.

THE PRIMETIMERS will hold a fall luncheon on Thursday, October 16th. Plan to join us in the Coffee Cafe at 11:30 a.m. for some surprises, prizes and fun expressions. Lunch will be provided. Come and bring your friends!

STUDENT MISSIONS GARAGE SALE Plans are being made to hold a garage sale on November 8th as a fundraiser for student missions. We need your help! Garage sale donations such as furniture, household items, books, toys, clothing, etc. can be brought to the church starting NOW – please put them in the old preschool room, next to the Parlor. Also, we will need lots of volunteers to help in the weeks leading up to the sale with pricing and organizing, as well as volunteers to help on the day of the sale. If you have questions or would like to volunteer, please contact Claudia Jaimes. Thank you for helping to make it possible for our students to engage in ministry and learning opportunities!

THE NEXT OYSTER CREEK BIBLE SCHOOL will be on November 2nd. Several of the girls who attend the Oyster Creek ministry have asked that we have a tea party, as they have never had one. If you are interested in making or buying finger sandwiches or petit fours to donate, please contact Diane Leaverton. We often send leftovers home with the Oyster Creek families and need small plastic containers with lids (like the soup containers from Floyd’s and Gringo’s). If you have some that you would be willing to spare, please drop them by the church office.

THE PASSION CONFERENCE is coming to Houston in 2015! This conference, targeted for young adults age 18-25 and their leaders, will be held at the Toyota Center from January 30th-February 1st. The website states: “Passion exists to see a generation leverage their lives for what matters most… To live in such a way that their journey on earth counts for what is most important in the end. For us at Passion, that’s the fame of the One who rescues and restores, and the privilege we have to amplify His name in everything we do.” If you are interested, you can get more information and register online at www.268generation.com. The sooner you register, the lower your cost. The registration price is $169 through November 3rd, and then goes up to $189. Contact Shanna Kirkpatrick for more information and to ride with the group from FFC.

THANK YOU to the many people who helped to make last Sunday’s BBQ & Silent Auction a success! Not only did we enjoy some great food, but over $7000 was raised for missions! We are grateful to Travis Mantell and his team for their delicious BBQ, Shannon Harris for preparing the amazing baked beans, Dora Kerr and Jane Beck for coordinating the meal, Janis Street and Shannon Harris for giving leadership to the auction and their many hours of work making the beautiful baskets, and the entire Missions Team for their great work planning, setting up, serving, and cleaning up. Special thanks also go to the many people who donated items for the auction, bid generously, and/or came out to enjoy the BBQ. It was a great team effort!
