THIS ADVENT SEASON we are participating in the Advent Conspiracy which is characterized by four founding principles: Worship Fully, Spend Less, Give More and Love All. The Advent Conspiracy movement’s message is to avoid getting caught up in the consumerism surrounding the holiday in order to celebrate Christmas as it should be—a joyous celebration of Jesus’ birth.
ON THE THIRD SUNDAY OF THE ADVENT CONSPIRACY, the theme is “Give More.” This year, our church wants to focus its efforts in giving both locally and globally. We encourage you to take some of the money that is available to you from “Spending Less” (the theme of AC’s 2nd Sunday) and give more to one of three organizations:
1. Evangelical Friends Mission – Like many other organizations, EFM has a Christmas Catalogue that allows you to donate practical gifts (i.e. chickens, goats, blankets, etc.) to people connected with EFM’s mission around the world. Pick up a catalogue on the kiosk in the foyer or donate online at friendsmission.com/Christmas.
2. Crossroads at Parkplace – Crossroads provides meals, clothing and hygiene care to the homeless. FFC would like to provide round-trip bus tokens for 300 people (the number Crossroads regularly serves) during the holiday season. Your donation can be made to Friendswood Friends, earmarked “Crossroads.”
3. Family Promise of Clear Creek – FFC is a partner with Family Promise providing housing and meals to homeless families throughout the year. FP anticipates starting up again in early 2015. Your donation will help fund that endeavor. Send donations to FPCC 2225 N. Houston Ave, Pearland, TX 77581 or at ccfamilypromise.org. or drop it by the church office.
LADIES, stop by the kiosk to pick up a brochure for our 2015 Women’s Retreat – Living Water. We will return to Camp Tejas, February 6th-8th. Our speaker this year will be Rochelle Bridges and Lauren Niscavits will return as our worship leader. The cost is $200 if your registration form and $100 deposit are received in the church office by January 7th. After that date, the price increases to $220. If you have any questions, please contact Amy Bivins.
IN 2015 WE INVITE YOU to a focused worship experience that includes a commitment to personal daily worship, small group exercises and corporate worship on Sundays all focused around the same theme. We invite you to utilize the “Blue Book” for your daily devotionals (a book based on other devotionals from the Upper Room), and then join a group on Sunday mornings led by Joe Roher that will continue teaching, prayer and worship based on the theme from the week. Our worship services each Sunday will also be focused on the weekly theme from the “Blue Book,” so if you participate in the devotionals throughout the week, and/or the Sunday morning group, Sunday morning’s worship may become a richer experience for you. The objective is to develop personal daily worship habits as well as develop community by worshipping with others who are committed to the same daily devotional texts. Books will be available for purchase at the church office by mid-December. The Sunday morning class will begin meeting at 9:30 a.m. on January 4th. For more information, contact Joe Roher or Everrett and Karen Jantz. The Blue Book readings and scriptural texts (along with podcasts) will also be published at bluebookstudy.com. You can check samples of the readings on that site now.
