GARAGE SALE DONATIONS for our November 14th missions fundraiser are now being accepted. THANK YOU to those who have already brought your donations to the church. We have started selling large items on Craig’s List. If you would like to help sort and price garage sale items, workdays are scheduled on the following Wednesdays from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m.: October 21st & 28th. Starting on Sunday, October 18th, we will have volunteer sign-up sheets for those willing to help with garage sale set-up (Nov. 11th – 13th) and during the sale itself (Nov. 14th). If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Diane Leaverton. Thank you!

DO YOU HAVE A HEART TO SHARE GOD’S LOVE through word and/or music at a facility for the elderly? Kay Griffin is looking for people who would be interested in being part of a team to minister at a local nursing home on the 2nd Sunday afternoon of each month. She is hoping for enough volunteers that each person would only serve once every few months. The residents currently have just one service per month, and since most aren’t able to get out to attend church services, they would love to have another opportunity to worship together. If you would like more information, please contact Kay.
A FLU SHOT CLINIC will take place in the Coffee Café on Sunday, October 25th from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Most types of insurance cover the cost of the shot, so bring your insurance card with you. For self-pay, the cost will be $28 for the regular flu shot, or $56 for the high dose shot recommended for those over age 65. A limited number of pneumonia shots will also be available. Children under 8 years old are not eligible to receive shots at the church, since those are given by prescription only.
PARENTS OF STUDENTS K-12 are invited to a free seminar focused on technology issues that affect our children, such as cyberbullying, sexting, and social networking. It will take place on October 13th at 6:30 p.m. in the Westwood school gym. Speaker Sameer Hinduja is internationally recognized for his work on the subject of safe social networking.
THE PRIMETIMERS “NO TRICKS/ONLY TREATS” fall luncheon will take place on Thursday, October 15th in the Coffee Cafe at 11:30 a.m. Bring your favorite dish or deli special and invite your friends to come enjoy great food and fellowship. You will also hear information about our exciting upcoming luncheons.
SUNDAY MORNING GREETERS are needed. This is a very important ministry that involves a minimal time commitment; all you need to do is be here a few minutes before the service to smile and say “good morning” to people as they arrive. If you would be willing to do this a few times a year, please contact the church office at 281-482-7821. You can choose either worship service, and we’d be glad to work around any special scheduling needs that you have.
FALL CLEAN UP: Want to take a step towards a cleaner environment? Help us pick up trash along our bayous and creeks! Join Green Friends on Saturday, October 24th. We will meet in the church parking lot at 8:30 a.m. and be back by 1 p.m. Whatever we collect is so much less trash that spoils our land. Bring gloves and shoes to get dirty. For more information, contact Mark Rubash.
THE CHURCH OFFICE will be closed on Monday for Columbus Day.
VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED to help spruce up the children’s playground and the Coffee Café entrance on October 17th from 9 a.m. to noon. If you would like to participate, please contact Tony Daniels or the church office. Bring your gloves and gardening tools.

All ages are welcome at these gatherings: children, teens and adults. The Baumer family will host a Friends and Neighbors Fall Harvest Party from 4 to 6 p.m. Come to enjoy treats and games; bring a canned good to share with the food pantry. Bobby and Janet Black will host a party from 6-8 p.m. with popcorn and some of our traditional Fall Festival games.
