1 Chronicles 21
TO OUR CHURCH FAMILY: Thank you for the prayers and condolences during this time of loss. And thank you to the ladies who helped prepare the beautiful reception after the memorial service and to everyone who donated food. God’s grace is sufficient. – From the family of Bob Hayes: Janet Hayes, Scott & Patty Lee, Hunter & Kayla Lee, Amber & Anthony Rubin, Jeff, Ashley, Laurel & Larkin Hayes
CONGRATULATIONS go to Becky Towne who has been chosen by HGST to receive The Delbert and Carol Vaughn Alumnus Award for Exemplary Leadership in Ministry for her spirit of service and excellence in the seminary community and beyond. Becky will be honored during the Uplift! Luncheon on Friday, November 6th. For more information on attending please visit the Houston Graduate School of Theology website at www.hgst.edu.
ALL 7TH AND 8TH GRADE JUNIOR HIGH STUDENTS and parents who would like to find out more about Bible quiz are invited to an informational meeting TODAY at 4:00 p.m. in the high school room, followed by our first Bible Quiz practice of the season at 4:45 p.m.
LADIES, you are invited to a baby shower for Sara (Byrne) Hopkins on Sunday, November 8th at 1:30 p.m. in the Coffee Café. Sara and Eric are expecting their first baby in December. They are registered at Babies ‘R Us (registry #57417040) and amazon.com. If you have any questions, please contact Laura Porterfield at email@example.com.
GARAGE SALE DONATIONS for our November 14th fundraiser benefitting Missions and MAYM 2016 Women’s Retreat are still being accepted. Many volunteers are needed to move items from the Education Building to the Friends Center, Set Up and Pricing, Cashier Station, Break Room, Parking Lot Attendants, and Sales Floor Helpers. We could use youth help to bag customers’ purchases and help people to their cars. Sign Up sheets will be in the Coffee Cafe after each service today or you can email Diane Leaverton to sign up.
IF YOU NEED ASSISTANCE getting large garage sale items (such as furniture) to the church, please contact the church office. There will be several “pick up days” scheduled in the next few weeks, so someone will contact you soon to arrange to help with transporting your donated items.
SUNDAY MORNING GREETERS are needed. This is a very important ministry that involves a minimal time commitment; all you need to do is be here a few minutes before the service to smile and say “good morning” to people as they arrive. If you would be willing to do this a few times a year, please contact the church office at 281-482-7821. You can choose either worship service, and we’d be glad to work around any special scheduling needs that you have.
OUR BIBLE QUIZ TEAM STUDENTS are taking orders for homemade pies. The cost is $10 for pumpkin pies and $15 for pecan or apple pies. You can place your order at the table in the Coffee Café before and after both services. The students will take orders today through November 15th. The pies will be available for pick up at the church on Sunday morning, November 22nd. If you have questions, contact David Jaimes. Thank you for helping to support our quiz team!
SAVE THE DATE for our annual Thanksgiving Dinner on Sunday, November 22nd at 5:00 p.m. This will be a catered buffet-style meal with turkey, ham and traditional Thanksgiving foods. The cost is $15 per person; a child’s plate (for ages five through ten) is $10. Advance ticket purchase will be required; tickets will be sold in the Coffee Café on November 8th and 15th, or at the church office beginning on November 2nd.
DINNER AUCTION: On Sunday, November 22nd immediately following our Thanksgiving dinner, the youth will host a “dinner auction” to raise funds for their travel to Tulsa, OK for “reGeneration”. We would love for you to donate a dinner or outing (sporting event, fishing trip, etc.) that you can host for another family. Following the dinner, we will auction off these outings. You can sign up with details of your donation in the Coffee Café – look for the dinner auction forms. If you have questions, contact David Jaimes.
LADIES, stop by the kiosk to pick up a brochure for our 2016 Women’s Retreat – Bread of Life. We will be heading to T Bar M Resort in New Braunfels, January 29th – 31st. Our speaker this year will be Cindy Dawson and we welcome Katie Newton as our worship leader. The cost for quadruple occupancy is $170 (there are also a limited number of single occupancy rooms) if your registration form and $100 deposit are received in the church office by Friday, January 15th. After that date, the price increases to $195. For any questions, please contact Beth Stanfield.
ATTENTION YOUTH: reGeneration is a meaningful gathering of Friends students in Mid-America Friends Churches for the purposes of deepening our relationship to Christ and sending out a new generation of disciple-makers, while also making connections between Friends Church youth from different churches and adult supporters from across our yearly meeting. This is an important gathering for our Mid-America youth, and we are excited to go December 28th – 31st! Any students ages 13-19 are welcome, as well as adults who are interested to come participate and serve as “coaches” for students at this gathering. The cost is $239 per person (the first $100 of which is due by Nov.18). We hope to raise all of our travel expenses through the Dinner Auction at our Thanksgiving dinner again this year, so that the only additional expense will be around $50 in food money for the trip up and back. You can register now at www.efcmaym.org/regeneration, and if you have any questions please contact David Jaimes.
