Scripture: Matthew 22:34-46

INTRODUCTION TO FRIENDSWOOD FRIENDS CHURCH: Would you like to know more about what this church believes and how it began? Come to this informal gathering, which is designed to help you meet others and understand our church. We will meet Sunday, January 17th in the Coffee Café following the 10:45 a.m. service and finish by 1:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome. A light lunch will be served. Child care will be available by advance reservation. Please join us!

COME JOIN US for young adult Bible study on Tuesday nights at 6:30 p.m. in the Coffee Café kitchen. We will start on January 12th and go for the spring semester. We will begin with a study in the Book of James using a book by Ben Stuart called “This Changes Everything”. We will have dinner together at 6:30 and the study will follow. All adults college age through early 30’s are welcome. Please contact Molly Black for more information.

ARE YOU INTERESTED in Christian perspectives on contemporary issues? Beginning January 13th, David Bridges will lead a class that will discuss Christian views on violence, race, other religions, creation care, and more. For nine weeks we’ll look at what the Bible says and doesn’t say about various theological and contemporary issues. No preparation or reading is required, just an open heart and a willingness to carefully and kindly engage with others as we reflect theologically on a variety of topics from Christian perspectives. Join us for one hour at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday evenings in the Coffee Café.

THE FLOWER CHART for 2016 has been posted in the foyer. You are invited to sign up for a date to provide the altar flowers in honor of a loved one or a special occasion in your family. Just sign your name by the date you have chosen – you’ll get a reminder card in the mail shortly before your chosen date.

MISSIONS CORNER – Please mark your calendars for Missions Commitment Sunday on February 7th. We will celebrate and learn more about the ministries that our church is involved in (both locally and around the world), and we will ask you to prayerfully consider making a commitment to be a part of these ministries through prayer, giving and/or volunteering. Please be sure to pick up a 2016 calendar from the kiosk. These calendars are a ‘thank you’ gift from David and Debby Thomas who have been serving as missionaries to Rwanda for 20+ years. The artwork comes from the Rift Valley Academy in Kenya – a school founded in 1906 to meet the educational needs of missionaries’ children. Gwen, the Thomas’s daughter won best picture for her submission featured in October. One calendar per family please.

LADIES, there is still time to register for our 2016 Women’s Retreat – Bread of Life. We are heading to the T Bar M Resort in New Braunfels, January 29th – 31st. PARENTS OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS: You are invited to an informational meeting about the spring break trip to Mexico, March 12th-18th– please join us in the high school room on Sunday, January 31st at 2 p.m. Students are welcome to attend as well. No commitment is necessary – just come to hear about the trip and ask any questions that you might have. Fund-raising ideas will also be discussed. Our groups spend time in Mexico every other year with Friends churches in the area around Nueva Rosita and we are excited to go back and serve again! We’ll spend time worshipping together; helping to complete construction projects on churches and assisting with children’s vacation Bible school. The cost for this trip is $225, to be paid online with your registration at www.efcmaym.org by February 19th. There will be a mandatory student orientation held on March 6th at the church for all students that will be participating.
