“Jesus’ Mission Becomes Our Mission: An Overview of the Last Few Years of Ministry and a Vision for the Future”

Luke 4:14-21

THE FLOWERS ON THE ALTAR TODAY are given by Marc & Kim Sommers in celebration of Christ’s triumphal entry this Palm Sunday and our beloved Helen Sommers triumphal entry into heaven 7 years ago.

THE CHURCH OFFICE will be closed on March 25th for Good Friday.

YOUNG ADULTS are invited to participate in a new Bible study beginning on March 28th. We’ll meet in the Coffee Café kitchen at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays for dinner and a 10-week study using the book Studies on the Go: Philippians, Colossians and First and Second Thessalonians. We will only be studying the Philippians portion of the series. This study is set up to explore Philippians through Bible reading and discussion. (That is right up our alley!) Feel free to order the book (you can find it on amazon) and follow along or just show up each week and discuss truth. Both ways work great. For more information, contact Molly Black.

LADIES, you are invited to attend a new 8-week session of the Sunday school class True Woman 101 beginning on Sunday, April 10th. Response to the first session has been very positive and the participants have encouraged class leader Teresa Wentz to offer another session so that more ladies can participate. The class will meet in the Brides Room (just off the Coffee Café) on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. from April 10th through May 29th. The book True Woman 101 was written by Mary A. Kassian and Nancy Lee Demoss and includes foundational teaching from God’s Word. Books will be provided free of charge to those attending the class. If you would like to participate, please call or email Teresa by Sunday, March 27th to reserve your copy.

JOIN US for a book study on C. Christopher Smith & John Pattison’s book, Slow Church: Cultivating Community in the Patient Way of Jesus, Wednesdays beginning March 23rd from 6:30-7:30 in the Coffee Café. Everyone is welcome! Books will be available for purchase from the church office or on Amazon in both physical and digital formats. Kids Can Do Club will meet concurrently and nursery care will be available.

USED HOUSEHOLD ITEMS NEEDED: Clete Rogers, who grew up in this church and served as a youth ministry intern here, recently accepted a position as youth director in Jasper, Texas. He will be moving into a duplex in early April but doesn’t have any household items to get started. If you have any used kitchen items, living room furniture or a computer desk that you no longer need and would be willing to donate, please contact Pam Rogers. Thank you for helping Clete to get started in this new ministry; please remember him in your prayers as well.

DUDE CAMP is coming up from June 2nd through 5th for students finishing 3rd through 5th grade. Pick up a brochure from the church office and plan to join us. Please contact Janet Black with any questions.

A NEW CLASS for 7th and 8th grade girls will begin on April 10th. We will meet on Sundays at 7 p.m. (right after junior high youth group) to enjoy some pizza together and study Elisa Pulliam’s book  Journey to Freedom. Together we’ll explore who we are, what shapes our identity, and how we can live in the freedom that is found when we embrace our identity in Christ. The class will meet 5 times – April 10th, 17th & 24th, then we’ll take a two week break and finish up on May 15th & 22nd. Invite your friends to join us for this study; it is open to everyone, not just girls who attend church here. We need a headcount to order the books and food, so if you would like to sign up or just have questions, please contact Sara Wilber by Sunday, April 3rd.

PLAN TO JOIN US for the special services that will be held during Easter week. There will be a Maundy Thursday Communion Service on March 24th at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel. The Good Friday Service of music, prayers and reflection will be on March 25th at 7:00 p.m. in the Worship Center. Child care will be available both evenings. Infants through 3 years will be in the nursery and preschool age through 5th grade will be in the Friends Center. This year’s Easter Sunrise Service will take place on our church campus at 6:30 a.m. on Easter Morning, March 27th. We will meet in the grassy area between buildings to celebrate the resurrection of our Savior. Coffee, juice and doughnuts will be served after the service. We will also be celebrating the resurrection in both of the other morning services at 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. Please come and join us!

MISSING ITEMS: Did you accidentally take home one of our hearing-impaired receivers? Or have you borrowed a church cooler and forgotten to bring it back? If you have either of these items, we would be grateful if you could return them quickly. We ask that you please always check with the church office before borrowing things from the church.

DO YOU KNOW HOW TO SEW? The committee that is preparing for the Mid America Friends Women Retreat in Galveston this fall needs a few people to help with a simple sewing project – some tablecloths and goodie bags for the retreat. All materials are provided. If you are interested in helping or would like more information, please contact Diane Leaverton.
