Sermon: David Bridges

“Gratitude, Contentment and Generosity”

1 Thessalonians 5.18

BABY DEDICATION: Shane Thomas Earnshaw and Alyssa Grace Earnshaw, son and daughter of Eric & Angela Earnshaw.

OUR HEARTFELT SYMPATHY goes to Jack and Celesta Rea and family. Jack’s mother, Virginia Rea, passed away on May 10th in Salem, Ohio. Funeral services were held yesterday at Salem First Friends Church.

TODAY WE HONOR Chayton Budzik and Matthew Delany who have completed the “Making Disciples” mentoring program. Each of these students met with an adult mentor at least 6 times to have conversations on assigned topics dealing with faith and the spiritual life. Please keep these young people in your prayers as they continue to apply the truths they have learned through this experience. A special thanks to Hunter Lee and Matthew Street who served as mentors! We are grateful for your willingness to give of your time and share your lives and your faith with these young people.

THE INTRODUCTION TO FRIENDSWOOD FRIENDS CHURCH CLASS has been postponed from May 22nd to June 5th in the Coffee Café following the 10 a.m. service and should finish by 12:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Light snacks will be served. Child care will be available by advance reservation. Please join us!

THE PRIMETIMER LUNCHEON will be held Thursday, May 19th at 11:30 a.m. in the Coffee Café. We will have a special treat with entertainment by the Over-the-Hill Gang. The meal will be furnished and topped off with an epicurean Ice Cream Sundae Bar. Come, invite your friends and expect to laugh, sing and reminisce.

JUNIOR HIGH AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS interested in going to Camp Quaker Haven are encouraged to go to www.efcmaym.org/campinformation where registration and information for “Kingdom Builders” is now available. Senior High Camp is from June 8th-13th, and Junior High Camp is June 12th-17th (ages allowed for each camp are “grades completed”). The cost for registration is $235; an additional $75 made payable to FFC will help to cover transportation costs. You’ll also need to bring $50 cash for travel meals. Register online with your $75 deposit by May 25th to avoid a late fee. Please contact David Jaimes with any questions.

OUR CHURCH WILL BE PARTNERING with Refugee Services of Texas to help a refugee family get settled in the Houston area. We are currently in the process of forming our “Welcoming Team” – there will be several different ways to get involved as we work with our assigned family over a 90-day period. If you are interested in being part of the team, please contact Pastor David Bridges within the next few days. One of our roles will be helping to stock the apartment of our family, so even if you don’t want to be part of the welcoming team, you may be able to help by donating needed household items. Watch for more information in the coming weeks.

OPEN GYM for kids 3 years through 5th grade begins on June 6th and will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays this year from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. in the Friends Center. The cost is $3 per child per session. Children under 3 are welcome to attend with a parent at no charge.

PICKLEBALL has really caught on in our area! We provide Pickleball for ages 18 and over on Monday nights from 7:15 – 9:00 p.m. We have beginners and up playing. It’s great exercise and a fun time to meet new friends. At least come watch! The Monday evening sessions are free. Starting this summer we will have Tuesday morning sessions at a cost of $5 per person. Courts will be available from 9 to noon on the following Tuesdays: June 7, 14 & 28; July 5, 12, 19 & 26; and August 2 & 9. Beginners are welcome; it is a friendly atmosphere and we switch around with different partners so that everyone gets a chance to play. If you have questions, contact Janet Black.

IF YOU HAVE NOT HAD A CHANCE to fill out the survey about your interest in participating in some of the ministries of our church, please pick up one of the green sheets on the information kiosk in the foyer. We would love to help you get plugged in to ways that you can use your gifts, meet others, and be blessed as you serve. If you don’t see what you are looking for on the survey, turn it over and write a note about how you would like to get involved. Completed surveys can be put in the offering plate, taken to the church office, or mailed to the church. If you have questions about the survey or about any of our church ministries, please contact the church office so that we can put you in touch with someone who can answer your questions.

SAVE THE DATE! The EFC-MAYM Friends Women’s Retreat will be October 14th – 16th at Moody Gardens in Galveston. Guest Speakers include Lou Ann Lee, Dana Poole and our very own Cindy Dawson. Registration forms will be available soon.

COMING SOON: “SUMMER SUNDAYS”! Beginning on June 5th, we will transition to our summer schedule of one combined worship service at 10:00 a.m. These combined services will feature a blend of musical styles. We look forward to once again having the opportunity to all worship together as one church family over the summer months. You are invited to come early for breakfast, which will be served at 9:00 a.m., followed by a brief, intergenerational liturgy of song, scripture and prayer which will be led by different individuals or families each week. We anticipate that this time will be something in which children 1st grade and up could easily participate; children younger than 1st grade can be taken to the nursery following breakfast, at about 9:25. Our regular schedule of two worship services and age-grouped Sunday School classes will resume for the fall on August 21st for Promotion Sunday. So – mark your calendar for June 5th and plan to be here for Summer Sundays!
