Sermon: David Bridges
“In Christ and Other Identities”
THE FLOWERS ON THE ALTAR TODAY are given in celebration of all the fathers in our congregation. – Mike & Anna Barmore
OUR HEARTFELT SYMPATHY goes to the family of Mary Beauchamp. Mary passed away Saturday, June 11th. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Jeter Memorial Funeral Home.
YOU ARE INVITED to a going-away party for David Jaimes TODAY at 11:00 a.m. (immediately following the “Summer Sunday” service at 10:00 a.m.) Please join us for some cake in the Coffee Café as we thank David for his ministry among us and send him off with our love and prayers. No meal will be served, so that you can move on to your Father’s Day plans after taking some time to say goodbye to David.
PLEASE PRAY for our students who will be participating in “Saltshaker” mission trips with other Mid America youth in the coming weeks. Katie Newton will be working with the Burundi team, and Sallianne Roher, Blake Stanfield & Hannah Jacobson will be serving in Nepal. If you would like to see updates from these teams, check out the Mid America blog at http://www.efcmaym.org/blog/ where updates will be posted as they are available.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL STARTS TOMORROW! Please pray for God’s blessing on each of the 278 children who will be on our campus this week, that the truths from God’s Word that are shared with them this week would make a lasting impact on their lives. ALSO, please pray for the 100+ workers who are helping to make VBS possible by giving of their time, talents, and love.
ALL JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH STUDENTS are invited to a “SUMMER KICK-OFF PARTY” SUNDAY, JUNE 26th at the Stutzman’s lake house. Junior High: 4-6 p.m. High school: 6-8 p.m. All parents welcome to stay and hangout too! Students are asked to bring their favorite snacks.
YOU ARE INVITED to join us for a “VBS picnic” immediately following the worship service on Sunday, June 26th. There is no charge for the meal and no need to sign up – just plan to join us for a simple meal of hamburgers, hot dogs, chips & dessert and help us to welcome the visitors who will be here for the VBS program. Offerings to offset the cost of the meal will be accepted.
CAN YOU HELP? We need a few volunteers to help with our VBS picnic. Table & chair set up will take place on Friday, June 24th at 11 a.m. The gym will be nice and cool, and set up should take less than an hour if we have several helpers. If you have a few minutes to help out with that, it would be greatly appreciated. OR, we could use a few volunteers the morning of the picnic (9 a.m. on June 26th) to help cut watermelon and set up the serving tables. We’ll finish up in time for you to go over for the service at 10 a.m. If you are willing to help with either of these needs, please contact the church office or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks for your help with this important time of making connections with our community!
PLEASE JOIN US on Sunday, June 26th for a relaxing evening of live music, good coffee, fellowship & games, and a presentation by author Marty Troyer about his new book, “The Gospel Next Door: Following Jesus Right Where You Are.” Marty Troyer is a husband, father, pastor and writer in Houston, where he has served at Houston Mennonite Church since 2008. He loves preaching and working to make God’s kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven. His blog, The Peace Pastor, emphasizes a gospel-centered Jesus ethic. We’ll meet in the Coffee Café at 7 p.m. Come and bring friends!
PICKLEBALL has really caught on in our area! We provide Pickleball for ages 18 and over on Monday nights from 7:15 – 9:00 p.m. We have beginners and up playing. It’s great exercise and a fun time to meet new friends. At least come watch! The Monday evening sessions are free. Starting this summer we will have Tuesday morning sessions at a cost of $5 per person. Courts will be available from 9 to noon on the following Tuesdays: June 28; July 5, 12, 19 & 26; and August 2 & 9. Beginners are welcome; it is a friendly atmosphere and we switch around with different partners so that everyone gets a chance to play. If you have questions, contact Janet Black.
BRIAN & KYLIE C. and their family will be returning to Friendswood June 28th. A great way to welcome them home would be to hold an old fashioned “pounding,” in which our church helps to stock their kitchen with essentials and many of their favorite foods before they arrive. If you would like to help, a sign-up sheet is available online at Sign Up Genius. The link is: http://goo.gl/q8AciS. This will allow you to see what items are needed and to buy the grocery items at your favorite store. You may also contact the church office at 281-482-7821 to find out what items are needed. Nonperishable goods may be dropped by the church any time before June 28th. Perishable items please wait until the 28th, as we have limited refrigerator space available due to VBS.
OPEN GYM for kids 3 years through 5th grade is being held on Mondays and Wednesdays this year from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. in the Friends Center. The cost is $3 per child per session. Children under 3 are welcome to attend with a parent at no charge. No Open Gym during VBS, June 20 – 24.
LADIES: Please join us on Wednesday, June 29th at 6:30 p.m. for Craft Night! We will enjoy great fellowship with one another while getting crafty together! Feel free to bring an appetizer to share….. Why not invite a friend to come along too? Please RSVP to Beth Stanfield. The cost will be $25 per person and will include all supplies.
