BULLETIN ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR JULY 31, 2016

Sermon: Cindy Dawson

“The Solution to the Problem”

Colossians 3:1-11

WE HAD A FANTASTIC WEEK at Oyster Creek VBS last week with 76 kids participating and 80 youth and adult helpers. A huge thank you to Cooper Dawson, Laura Demchak, Tressah Furlow, Tanner Garvin, Cassidy Harris, Mikayla Leaverton, Emily Montes, Katelyn Sanders, and Frances Williams for their willingness to commute daily to Oyster Creek and for the love they showed to all of the VBS kids!  Thanks to Marge Kelly, who washed, cleaned and cut many pounds of vegetables for the VBS suppers. Thanks to the Friends Community Church of Angleton for the use of their van (and to Pat and David Davenport for delivering it to my house since my husband had to go out of town). It was wonderful for all of us to be able to ride together and enjoy fellowship during the commute. Special thanks to Katelyn, who drove us back and forth everyday; I really appreciated that. Thank you for being so dedicated to this ministry! Many blessings, – Diane Leaverton

SUMMER OFFICE SCHEDULE: In order to save on costs over the summer months, the church office will be closed on Thursdays through August 18th. We’ll be back to our regular schedule for the start of the school year.

UPCOMING MISSIONARY SPEAKERS: Our EFM missionaries to Rwanda, Brad and Chelsea Carpenter, will be here on Sunday, August 7th. The Carpenters will speak briefly during our morning worship service and will also have a more extended time of sharing as part of the “Summer Sunday” breakfast. Please join us for breakfast at 9 a.m., and for sharing from the Carpenters at about 9:15. The Carpenter family will be in Friendswood for several days, so if you would like to set up a time to meet with them individually, please contact Molly Black.  On August 14th we will hear from Brian and Kylie C. during the Summer Sunday breakfast. Please plan to join us to hear how God is at work in these ministries!

HOUSING IS NEEDED for Brad and Chelsea Carpenter and their two young children while they are in Friendswood from August 6th-10th. If you can help, please contact the church office.  (Note: due to allergies, the Carpenters need to stay in a home without cats.)

JUNIOR AND SENIOR HIGH STUDENTS are invited to attend the “Great Brown Bag Lunch Outings” on Tuesdays this summer. We’ll be helping out with some of the ministries that take place in the greater Houston area. This week’s ministry site is Star of Hope in Houston. We’ll meet at the church at 9 a.m. and return by 4 p.m. Please RSVP by tonight if you’d like to participate. To reserve a spot or for more info, contact Jason Porterfield.

KIDS’ HOPE USA: We are excited to partner with Westwood/Bales again for the 2016-17 school year. There is a need for mentors, substitutes and prayer partners. For more information, come to the Coffee Cafe following the worship service on August 7th. Application forms are available online or in the church office. Please respond by August 10th and save the date of Saturday, August 13th for a required training session from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. (lunch is provided). Help us to serve students and teachers well this year!

YOU ARE INVITED to a baby shower for Hunter and Kayla Lee. Please join us for brunch on Saturday, August 6th at 10:30 a.m. in the Coffee Café as we celebrate with Kayla and Hunter and help them to prepare for the arrival of their first child, a baby boy due in late September. Both men and women are welcome at the shower. The Lees are registered at Babies ‘R Us and online at Babylist – the link to their registry is https://babyli.st/kayla-lee-baby-registry.  If you have questions, please contact.

ONE WAY TO LOVE YOUR NEIGHBORS—a 4-week class titled, “Developing Uncommon Friendships” will begin on August 31st and conclude September 21st. Facilitated by David Bridges, the class will open with a short video from the Co-Founders of the Global Immersion Project, Jon Huckins and Jer Swigart. The four classes will focus on every day practices that will help us see, immerse and contend with our neighbors and colleagues around us in ways that will help cultivate friendships—especially with those who may be different from you. Join us in the Coffee Café at 6:30pm each Wednesday beginning August 31!

OPEN GYM for kids is held on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. The cost is $3 per child per session (no charge for children 3 & under accompanied by a parent).

LADIES: Please join us on Wednesday, August 10th at 6:30 p.m. for Craft Night! We will enjoy great fellowship with one another while getting crafty together! Feel free to bring an appetizer to share….. Why not invite a friend to come along too? Please RSVP to Beth Stanfield. The cost will be $25 per person and will include all supplies. We’ll meet in the Coffee Café.
