BULLETIN ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR SEPTEMBER 18, 2016

Sermon: David Bridges

“Where to Find Help and Protection”

Psalm 121

THE FLOWERS ON THE ALTAR TODAY are given by Donald and Jennifer White in honor of their 20th wedding anniversary and in celebration of their daughters’ 14th birthday. Happy Birthday Mara and Graisa! We love you!

OUR HEARTFELT SYMPATHY goes to Billie Trainer and family for the death of Billie’s husband Art this past week. A memorial service was held on Friday in Buffalo, Texas. The Trainers are former members here, and some of you will remember Billie from her time working in the church office. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to a memorial fund that has been set up to provide for the future care of Art and Billie’s adult daughter Paula, who has Down Syndrome. You can access the fund at gofundme.com by searching for the Art Trainer Memorial Fund, or go to https://www.gofundme.com/2xwv7fvj?ssid=73747761.

BLOOD DRIVE TODAY: The Gulf Coast mobile coach will be on our property today until 2 p.m. – walk-ins are welcome!  Just look for the donor coach in the parking lot, right by the doors to the main office. Thank you for helping to save lives!

LADIES, you are invited to join us for the fall Bible study which will begin on Wednesday, September 21st. A light breakfast will be served at 9:15 a.m., followed by the study at 9:30. We’ll finish by 11 a.m. Our book for this session is The Armor of God by Priscilla Shirer.  Books will be available at the first class; the cost is $13. Nursery care will be provided. Come and bring a friend to enjoy this time of fellowship and study!

A WOMEN’S EVENING BIBLE STUDY will begin September 21st at 6:30 p.m. The location is the home of Kimberly Sheets. The study will be The Gospel of Mark by Lisa Harper. Books are $12.99 at Lifeway Christian book store. We will also have some books available for purchase the first night of the study. We look forward to sharing life and learning with you!

THE DAY CENTER FOR FAMILY PROMISE is in the process of being restored and renovated for use. Our church is supporting the project by helping set up the kitchen area. We are asking for the following donations: blinds, shelf liner, coffee maker, microwavable containers or tupperware, dishes, silverware, dish towels, dishwasher. Cash donations are also welcome. The deadline to donate items is September 30th. Please email Molly Black for more information or if you have any questions.

FAMILY PROMISE OF CLEAR CREEK will be holding a fundraiser gala on October 22nd from 6 – 10 p.m. at the S.E. Church of Christ (2400 Bay Area Blvd). The guest speaker will be Debbie Simmons, CEO of Anchor Point. The cost is $65. If you would like to attend you may email your ticket request to gala@ccfamilypromise.org.

HOST A HALLOWEEN BLOCK PARTY (October 29th, 30th, or 31st) and apply for a $100 grant to make it happen. Invite your neighbors and open the invitation to Friendswood Friends. Here is a chance to get to know and hang out with your neighbors and church friends. We are willing to loan our games (first come first serve). We are encouraging this “get to know people” Block Party in place of our Fall Festival which is usually held in the gym. Deadline for grant applications is October 11th; find applications on the church website. For more information, contact Janet Black.

SAVE THE DATE: On Sunday, November 6th, we will host a BBQ lunch and Silent Auction after church. All proceeds will benefit Missions.

OUR SILENT AUCTION at the November 6th BBQ will raise funds to help support our local and world missions. Do you have something that you would be willing to donate to the auction?  Here are some ideas to get you started: Handcrafted items, event tickets, gift certificates, paintings or prints, themed gift baskets, antiques, jewelry – anything that people might bid on! Maybe you have just one or two small items that we could combine with others to make a basket. Please bring silent auction donation items to the church office.

Psalm 121 (MSG)

1-2 A Pilgrim Song:  I look up to the mountains;
does my strength come from mountains?
No, my strength comes from God,
who made heaven, and earth, and mountains.

3-4 He won’t let you stumble,
your Guardian God won’t fall asleep.
Not on your life! Israel’s
Guardian will never doze or sleep.

5-6 God’s your Guardian,
right at your side to protect you—
Shielding you from sunstroke,
sheltering you from moonstroke.

7-8 God guards you from every evil,
he guards your very life.
He guards you when you leave and when you return,
he guards you now, he guards you always.
