BULLETIN ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR OCTOBER 2, 2016

Sermon: David Bridges

“Our Security”

Psalm 125

THE FLOWERS ON THE ALTAR TODAY are given in celebration of the 47th wedding anniversary of Kim and Cindy Page. We feel very blessed by the presence of our family this year, and are truly thankful for our church family as well.

CONGRATULATIONS to Hunter and Kayla Lee on the birth of their son! Emmett Robert Richard Lee was born on September 27th. Scott and Patty Lee are the proud grandparents.

OCTOBER IS PASTOR APPRECIATION MONTH! The Clerk and Coordinators encourage you to take time to let our pastors know how much their ministry means to you. For the past several years we have had a tradition of “showering” our pastors with gift cards to local businesses. A card or a thoughtful note would also be a great way to express your appreciation. And, don’t forget to lift up our pastors in prayer on a regular basis.

TREE DEDICATION RESCHEDULED. Please join us on October 9th as we commemorate Bobby Kirkpatrick’s 10 years of service as part of the pastoral staff of Friendswood Friends Church. We will be dedicating one of the trees on our front lawn and placing a plaque in Bobby’s honor as we celebrate this milestone. This will be done in a brief ceremony between 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. services. We hope that you will participate in helping to recognize Bobby for his years of faithful ministry among us.

FLU SHOT CLINIC SUNDAY, OCTOBER 9TH! Flu shots will be available in the Coffee Cafe area.

ALL LADIES ARE INVITED to the home of Molly Black on October 8th at 4 p.m. to meet her friends Amy Boiles and Gabie Ingabire. Amy and Gabie will be sharing about their ministry to women in Rwanda called DuHope through the Belay Global organization which you can learn more about at http://www.belayglobal.org. Refreshments will be served plus Amy and Gabie will be bringing some amazing jewelry to sell that was created by the struggling women in Rwanda. A group will be going to dinner afterward, so everyone is welcome to come and get to know Jamie and Gabie better. Please contact Molly for more information.

COOKIES FOR EFCMAYM WOMEN’S RETREAT – The EFCMAYM Women’s Retreat will be in Galveston October 14th – 16th, and we would like to put together some treat bags for the attendees. If you would be willing to bake/buy some cookies, please contact Diane Leaverton. We are trying to get a total of 26 dozen cookies. The cookies may be brought to the church kitchen on October 6th or 7th. One of the attendees has a life-threatening allergy to rosemary, which is sometimes used in oil form as a preservative, so please double-check ingredients.

FAMILY PROMISE OF CLEAR CREEK will be holding a fundraiser gala on October 22nd from 6 – 10 p.m. at the S.E. Church of Christ (2400 Bay Area Blvd). The guest speaker will be Debbie Simmons, CEO of Anchor Point. The cost is $65. If you would like to attend you may email your ticket request to gala@ccfamilypromise.org. A silent auction will be held during the gala. If you have items that you would like to donate, please contact David Bridges.

SAVE THE DATE for our all-church Fall Retreat! Everyone is invited to join us from 7 p.m. on November 11th through noon of the 13th at Forest Glen Camp (just outside of Huntsville). We’ll be staying in air conditioned/heated cabins, so no need to bring tents or camping gear. The cost of $125 for adults or $80 for kids 3 – 18 yrs. (children under 3 are free) includes 2 nights lodging, 4 meals, and lots of optional activities such as canoeing, hikes, campfires, sports & games, crafts, etc. The program will be loosely structured so that you will have the freedom to spend time alone relaxing and enjoying nature, or to engage in groups and activities as much as you like. Space is limited so pick up a registration form from the kiosk or download a copy from the church website at friendswoodfriends.org. Your full payment and completed registration will reserve a spot. If you have questions, contact John Dawson, Bobby Kirkpatrick or Janet Black at 281-482-7821.

EVERYONE IS INVITED to an open house on Sunday, October 8th from 3 to 5 p.m. for the new Family Promise Day Center. The Day Center is located next to Lakeside Lutheran Church in League City, 1101 South Egret Bay Blvd. For more information please visit www.cccfamilypromise.org.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR – On Sunday, November 6th we will have one combined worship service at 10:00 a.m. Most Sunday school classes will not meet that day. Following the service, you are invited to stay to enjoy a delicious Barbecue lunch and our annual silent auction. All funds raised from the meal and auction will go to missions.

SAVE THE DATE:  FFC Women’s Retreat at T Bar M Resort in New Braunfels, TX – January 27th – 29th 2017

HOST A HALLOWEEN BLOCK PARTY (October 29th, 30th, or 31st) and apply for a $100 grant to make it happen. Invite your neighbors and open the invitation to Friendswood Friends. Here is a chance to get to know and hang out with your neighbors and church friends. We are willing to loan our games (first come first serve). We are encouraging this “get to know people” Block Party in place of our Fall Festival which is usually held in the gym. Deadline for grant applications is October 11th; find applications on the church website. For more information, contact Janet Black.

SILENT AUCTION REMINDER – Do you have something that you would be willing to donate to the missions silent auction?  Here are some ideas to get you started: Handcrafted items, event tickets, gift certificates, paintings or prints, themed gift baskets, antiques, jewelry – anything that people might bid on!  Maybe you have just one or two small items that we could combine with others to make a basket. Please bring silent auction items to the church office by October 21st.

PSALM 125 MSG

125 Those who trust in God
are like Zion Mountain:
Nothing can move it, a rock-solid mountain
you can always depend on.
Mountains encircle Jerusalem,
and God encircles his people—
always has and always will.
The fist of the wicked
will never violate
What is due the righteous,
provoking wrongful violence.
Be good to your good people, God,
to those whose hearts are right!
God will round up the backsliders,
corral them with the incorrigibles.
Peace over Israel!
