BULLETIN ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR JANUARY 8, 2017

Sermon:  David Bridges
Preparing for the Lord
Scripture:  Luke 3.1-14

RONALD AND BARBARA WORDEN, would like to thank the congregation for visits and help during a period of health problems, for visits from pastoral staff and members, to Roy Skeeter for installation of grab bars to help prevent falls, and recently for a collection of cookies and gift cards for Christmas, from anonymous church members, delivered by Janet Black.

PRAYER REQUEST INFORMATION: Did you know that prayer requests from members of our congregation are available on the church website? To access the requests, go to friendswoodfriends.org and click on the tab that says “News” in the top right corner. Then click on the first item under the news heading, which is prayer requests. To protect everyone’s privacy, the file is password protected, so you will need to enter the password friends (all lower case – same password for everyone.) If you like, you can save the password on your computer so that you will only need to enter it the first time you access the requests. If you have trouble accessing the requests or if you would like to add a prayer request to the list, please contact the church office.

REMINDER to Meals on Wheels volunteers: We are scheduled for the week of January 9th.

JUNIOR HIGH FUSE AND SENIOR HIGH CORE activities will resume for the spring session beginning TODAY. STUDENT LEADERSHIP begins again starting on Thursday, January 12th.

KIDS CAN DO begins again on Wednesday, January 11th from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m. and is open to kids ages 3 years through 5th grade.

THE FLOWER CHART for 2017 has been posted in the foyer. You are invited to sign up for a date to provide the altar flowers in honor of a loved one or a special occasion in your family. Just sign your name by the date you have chosen – you’ll get a reminder card in the mail shortly before your chosen date.

LADIES, there is still time to register for our 2017 Women’s Retreat – Wonderfully Woven. Retreat information and registration are included in today’s bulletin. We will be heading to T Bar M Resort in New Braunfels, January 27th – 29th. Our speaker this year will be Glenda McDonald and we welcome back Katie Newton as our worship leader. The cost for quadruple occupancy is $200 (there are also a limited number of single occupancy rooms) if your registration form and $100 deposit are received in the church office by Friday, January 13th. After that date, the price increases to $225. For any questions, please contact Beth Stanfield.

IT’S NOT TOO LATE to get started on a Bible reading plan for 2017!  Stop by the kiosk today to pick up a copy of a guide that will help you to read through the entire Bible this year. The plan includes 5 days of readings per week, which makes it easier to catch up if you get behind, or to take a day off when your schedule is busy.  Each day’s readings are a mix of selections from the Old Testament, New Testament and Psalms, or you can choose to just do the New Testament readings if you prefer. The time that you spend in God’s word will shape your life in profound and meaningful ways.
