Sermon: Cindy Dawson
“Willing to be Convinced”
Luke 16:19-31

GREEN FRIENDS CLEAR CREEK CLEANUP has been rescheduled for Saturday, April 15th. Help clean up our environment – join us for a morning of trash pick up along a part of Clear Creek here in Friendswood. We will walk the banks, so wear rubber boots and bring gloves. Meet in the church parking lot at 8:30; we’ll be back before noon. If you plan to come, please RSVP to Mark so that you can be notified of any weather-related cancelation. If you can bring a pickup truck, please let Mark know about that as well.

THE FRIENDSWOOD POLICE DEPARTMENT Crime Victim Assistance Program will be hosting a community events as part of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week on Monday, April 3rd at 11:00 a.m. in Stevenson Park. This will be a remembrance ceremony in honor of Laura Smither. April 3rd marks the 20th anniversary of her disappearance when the strength of our community was shared with the Nation.

VBS IS NEARLY FULL! If you have friends and family that you have invited to participate, please let them know that they need to sign up by Monday, March 27th. We anticipate that by that afternoon we will have reached full capacity and will need to stop accepting additional registrations. However, we will continue to receive applications for youth helpers, so students finishing 6th grade and up (as well as adults) are encouraged to volunteer!

THE LAST DAY FOR TWEENS for this school year will be Thursday, April 20th. Special thanks to those from our congregation who have faithfully volunteered to help with this important ministry to our community!

CHECK OUT THE “NEWS” SECTION ON OUR CHURCH WEBSITE to read some reports that were presented at the March Coordinators meeting. The report from Pastor David Bridges discusses some trends in attendance and contributions and raises some suggestions for things to consider as we look to the future. The report from Facilities Coordinator Walt Hansen includes a summary of the findings of the consultant who reviewed our HVAC system, a summary of the findings of a foundation restoration company that evaluated some foundation issues at the church and the parsonage, and some information about a potential matching grant from the City of Friendswood for beautification work on our church campus. These reports are password-protected files.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR for Sunday, April 2nd.  Emmanuel Favor, the new Executive Director of Family Promise, will lead a volunteer training session for those from our church and several other area churches who are interested in serving as volunteers in the Family Promise Ministry. Please join us from 2 – 3:30 p.m. in the Coffee Café.  This training is not required in order to be able to volunteer, but will be very helpful in letting you know what to expect and how to best serve the families that we will be hosting. If your small group or Sunday School class is considering the possibility of volunteering as a group to cover one evening, we strongly encourage you to find at least one person from your group who can attend this training session. Contact Desiree Trevino or Beth Skeeter if you have questions.

A BOOK DISCUSSION on the book “Just Mercy” will be held on Wednesday, April 5th at 6:30 p.m. in the Parlor. If you have recently read the book and would like to dialogue with others about their thoughts, please join us! There are a few more copies of “Just Mercy” available on the kiosk; please leave your $10 payment in the basket next to the books.

LADIES – You are invited to the Women’s Ministry Easter Craft Night on Wednesday, April 5th. We’ll meet at 6:30 p.m. in the Coffee Café to enjoy light refreshments, conversation and laughter while working on Easter crafts – your choice of a cross or Easter bunny. Please RSVP to Kody Shepherd by the end of the day today and specify whether you’d like the cross or bunny design. The cost is $35. Invite your friends and neighbors and plan to join us for this fun evening of spending time together and being creative!

PLAN TO JOIN US for the special services that will be held during Easter week. There will be a Maundy Thursday Communion Service on April 13th at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel. The Good Friday Service of music, prayers and reflection will be on April 14th at 7:00 p.m. in the Worship Center. Nursery care will be available both evenings. The time for our Easter Sunrise Service will be announced soon.

OUR FIRST WEEK TO HOST HOMELESS FAMILIES through the Family Promise ministry is April 16th-23rd.  Here are the some of the ways that you can help:

.  Provide some food for one of the evening meals, and/or help to serve. We would love for some of the Sunday School classes or small groups in our church to sign up to do one meal as a group.

.  Spend a night at the church – we need two volunteers each evening to sleep in Friends Center. You would be free to leave once the families depart at 6 a.m.

.  Help to set up the rooms for our guests  (this will take place between April 12th & 15th,) and/or help to put the classrooms back to their regular set up after church on Sunday, April 23rd.

.  Donate new or gently used twin size bedding – we need sheets, light weight velour blankets, and mattress pads.

.  Donate money for purchasing food, linens, and other necessities.

If you would like to help with any of these needs or want more information, please contact our FFC Family Promise Coordinators: Desiree Trevino and Beth Skeeter. Loy Trevino & Stephen Skeeter will be available after church today to answer questions and take sign-ups. Thank you for helping us to bless these families from our community who are in need of tangible expressions of God’s love and care for them.

SAVE THE DATE – Clear Creek Family Promise will be holding a fundraiser golf tournament at Clear Creek Golf Club in Pearland on Saturday, May 13th. More information will be available soon!
