Sermon: Jon Huckins
“Following the Wrong Kind of King”
Matthew 21:1-11

CONGRATULATIONS to Roy and Aleni McIntyre on the birth of their baby girl! Adriana Carolina McIntyre was born on Tuesday, April 4th, and was welcomed by big brothers Charles, Roger, Daniel and David. Please pray for the McIntyres as they celebrate the arrival of this precious little girl and go through all of the adjustments of adding a new family member.

THE CHURCH OFFICE will be closed on Friday, April 14th for Good Friday.

VBS VOLUNTEERS: It takes over 100 volunteers to put on our VBS, so junior and senior high students and adults are encouraged to consider helping out. Adult and youth volunteers may pick up registration forms on the kiosk or in the church office. Please contact Janet Black for more information.

GREEN FRIENDS – CLEAR CREEK CLEANUP has been rescheduled for Saturday, April 15th. Help clean up our environment – join us for a morning of trash pick up along a part of Clear Creek here in Friendswood. We will walk the banks, so wear rubber boots and bring gloves. Meet in the church parking lot at 8:30; we’ll be back before noon. If you plan to come, please RSVP to Mark Rubash so that you can be notified of any weather-related cancelation. If you can bring a pickup truck, please let Mark know about that as well.

PLAN TO JOIN US for the special services that will be held during Easter week. There will be a Maundy Thursday Communion Service on April 13th at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel. The Good Friday Service of music, prayers and reflection will be on April 14th at 7:00 p.m. in the Worship Center. Child care will be available both evenings. Children ages 0 – 3 will be in the nursery, kids ages 3 – 5th grade will be in the gym. This year’s Easter Sunrise Service will take place on our church campus at 6:30 a.m. on Easter Morning, April 16th. We will meet in the grassy area between buildings to celebrate the resurrection of our Savior. Coffee, juice and doughnuts will be served after the service. We will also be celebrating the resurrection in both of the other morning services at 9:30 and 10:45 a.m. Please come and join us!

RABBI STUART FEDEROW from Congregation Shaar Hashalom will be here to host a Question and Answer session about Judaism. Congregation Shaar Hashalom is a Conservative Jewish synagogue in Clear Lake, and Rabbi Federow is experienced in hosting informative introductions to their traditions as well as explaining differences among the various Jewish traditions. If you’re interested in learning about Judaism, please begin to think of questions, write them down and then bring them to this informal gathering. The meeting will take place in the Coffee Cafe at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 7th. Everyone is invited.

THANK YOU to those who have signed up to help with Family Promise!  Our families will arrive next Sunday. So far we are expecting 2 couples and their 7 children, ages 4 to 18.  Here are a few reminders for those who are helping:

.  If you have signed up to help with one of the meals, please bring it to the Friends Center kitchen by about 5:45 (6 p.m. at the very latest). Hot foods should be brought already heated up and ready to serve.

.  If you are spending the night, don’t forget to bring your own bedding and pillow.

.  If you haven’t signed up to help yet and would like to get involved, please contact Desiree Trevino or Beth Skeeter.  More helpers are always welcome, and we could also use some subs who would be willing to be on call in case one of our “regulars” is ill or has an emergency. Also, we could still use some twin size sheets and blankets. Please pray for God’s blessing on our guest families and the many volunteers who will be serving them.

THE LAST DAY FOR TWEENS for this school year will be Thursday, April 20th. Special thanks to those from our congregation who have faithfully volunteered to help with this important ministry to our community!

CLEAR CREEK FAMILY PROMISE will be holding a charity golf tournament at Clear Creek Golf Club in Pearland on Saturday, May 13th from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tickets for foursomes are $500 and individual tickets are $150. For more information please contact Ryan Kirksey at ryankirksey@yahoo.com.

WORK DAY AND BARBECUE LUNCH: Saturday, April 22nd is Earth Day!  What better way to spend it than gathering with Friends and actually getting our hands into the dirt to help make our campus more beautiful? We have some low spots on the front lawn; you have probably noticed water pooling there after each heavy rain. We would like to take a day to fill those spots in, and possibly do some weeding in our front flower beds. So we need some willing workers as well as wheel barrows, rakes and shovels. We will start at 9 a.m. and finish up our work by around noon to enjoy a lunch of BBQ sandwiches. We want this to be a fun activity where you can bring the whole family and enjoy getting to know others from our congregation while you work. We will plan to have a moon walk for the kids to play in, and some sprinklers if the weather is warm.  WE NEED A HEADCOUNT in order to plan the meal and also to know how much work we will be able to handle that day. If you can attend, please RSVP to the church office or to Walt Hansen (and if you can bring a wheel barrow and/or rakes, please mention that as well.) We would also love to have some help with the meal – maybe dropping off a side dish or dessert, or coming to help make iced tea and serve the meal. Please contact Walt Hansen or Joyce Byrne if you can help with either the work day or the meal, or call the church office at 281-482-7821.
