CHURCH DIRECTORY: Thank you to those who have submitted photos for our upcoming church photo directory, as well as updating your contact information through the form on our website. If you do not want to fill out the form on line, there are several other ways for us to check the information with you. Joyce Byrne will be in the foyer after both services today, and you can simply stop by to review the information that we have on file and let Joyce know of any changes, as well as any contact info that you prefer not to have published in the directory. Or, you can call the church office at your convenience to go over the information. For those who do not have a photo to submit, we will have some photographers available after services during May to take a quick, informal picture of you (and your spouse or family, if applicable). If you already have a photo, please send it by email to firstname.lastname@example.org. Thank you for your help in creating this directory, which we hope will help us to get to know one another better.
REMINDER: The application deadline for the 2017-2018 Patricia Allen Scholarship is Monday, May 1st at 4:30 p.m. If you wish to be considered for the scholarship, please be sure that all of the components of your application are submitted to the church office by 4:30 p.m. tomorrow.
RABBI STUART FEDEROW from Congregation Shaar Hashalom will be here to host a Question and Answer session about Judaism. Congregation Shaar Hashalom is a Conservative Jewish synagogue in Clear Lake, and Rabbi Federow is experienced in hosting informative introductions to their traditions as well as explaining differences among the various Jewish traditions. If you’re interested in learning about Judaism, please begin to think of questions, write them down and then bring them to this informal gathering. The meeting will take place in the Coffee Cafe at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 7th. Everyone is invited.
LADIES: A new women’s book Study will be meeting on Wednesdays during May. We will be discussing Raising Grateful Kids in an Entitled World by Kristen Welch. The first meeting is this Wednesday, May 3rd at 9:30 a.m. in the Brides Room. Books may be purchased on Amazon, at Barnes and Noble or Lifeway. Please RSVP to Kody Shepherd (so we can have accurate childcare numbers.)
OUR 2017 VBS IS FULL, BUT WE STILL NEED VBS VOLUNTEERS: It takes over 100 volunteers to put on our VBS, so junior and senior high students and adults are encouraged to consider helping out. Adult and youth volunteers may pick up registration forms on the kiosk or in the church office. Please contact Janet Black for more information.
THE WORK PROJECT to fill in low spots on our front lawn has been rescheduled for the weekend of May 11-13. Walt Hansen plans to have the dirt delivered to the church on the morning of Thursday, May 11th. He is hoping that a few people will have time to get started on the work during the morning or evening on Thursday and Friday (avoiding the hottest time of the day), and then finish up with a larger group on Saturday morning the 13th. If you are available to help for a while on ANY of these dates, please contact Walt Hansen to let him know when you are available. If you can bring a wheelbarrow, rake and/or shovel, that would be very helpful! Also, we hope to get started on doing some weeding of the flower beds in preparation for adding mulch, so any help with weeding would also be appreciated!
ARE YOU GRADUATING from high school or college this year? We want to honor you in our special graduation bulletin on May 21st. Graduating students or their parents are asked to contact the church office at 281-482-7821 or email@example.com with the student’s name, the school that he or she will graduate from and the degree and major (for college students). High school graduates will be honored during the 10:45 a.m. service on May 21st.
CLEAR CREEK FAMILY PROMISE will be holding a charity golf tournament at Clear Creek Golf Club in Pearland on Saturday, May 13th from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tickets for foursomes are $500 and individual tickets are $150. For more information please contact Ryan Kirksey at firstname.lastname@example.org.
COMING SOON: “SUMMER SUNDAYS”! Beginning on June 2nd, we will transition to our summer schedule of one combined worship service at 10:00 a.m. These combined services will feature a blend of musical styles. We look forward to once again having the opportunity to all worship together as one church family over the summer months. You are invited to come early for breakfast, which will be served at 9:00 a.m., followed by a brief, intergenerational liturgy of song, scripture and prayer which will be led by different individuals or families each week. We anticipate that this time will be something in which children 1st grade and up could easily participate; children younger than 1st grade can be taken to the nursery following breakfast, at about 9:25. Our regular schedule of two worship services and age-grouped Sunday School classes will resume for the fall on August 20th for Promotion Sunday. If you would like to help with breakfast preparation please contact Gayle Jircik for more information.
DO YOU SHOP ON AMAZON? If so, please consider designating Friendswood Friends Church as your preferred charity through the “Amazon Smile” Program, and Amazon will donate .5% of your total purchase amount to the church at no extra cost to you. You can do this by following this link: https://smile.amazon.com/ch/74-1300892 or sign up for Amazon Smile and look for Friendswood Friends Church on the list of eligible charities. Once you have designated a charity, you simply need to access Amazon through the website smile.amazon.com instead of amazon.com, and the church will automatically receive your contribution. It’s an easy way to help support the ministries of our church at no cost to you! Contact the church office if you have questions.
