Sermon: David Bridges
“Do You Understand What You Are Reading?”
PICTURE DAY TODAY! If you don’t have a digital photo available to send to us for our upcoming church photo directory, please take a moment after today’s service to get your picture taken. Several photographers will be in the Coffee Café and/or porte cochere area in front of the Worship Center. Please sign in on the sheet provided so that we can match your name with the photo. There will also be a few more opportunities this month to have your picture taken. Also, don’t forget that we need to make sure that we have your up-to-date contact information for the directory, and to know about any details that you prefer not to have published. You can do this several different ways: Fill out the online form on our website, call the church office at your convenience, fill out one of the yellow forms on the kiosk and return it to the church office, or stop to go over your information with Joyce Byrne following today’s service. Thank you for helping us out with this directory, which we hope will be a great asset in helping us to get to know one another better.
CAN YOU HELP to take photos after church on one or more Sundays this month? You don’t need to have a special camera; phone pictures are great! If you are willing to help or would like more information, please contact Joyce Byrne at 281-482-7821 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
RABBI STUART FEDEROW from Congregation Shaar Hashalom will be here this afternoon to host a Question and Answer session about Judaism. Congregation Shaar Hashalom is a Conservative Jewish synagogue in Clear Lake, and Rabbi Federow is experienced in hosting informative introductions to their traditions as well as explaining differences among the various Jewish traditions. If you’re interested in learning about Judaism, please begin to think of questions, write them down and then bring them to this informal gathering. The meeting will take place in the Coffee Cafe at 4 p.m. today. Everyone is invited.
THE WORK PROJECT to fill in low spots on our front lawn has been rescheduled for the weekend of May 11th-13th. Walt Hansen plans to have the dirt delivered to the church on the morning of Thursday, May 11th. He is hoping that a few people will have time to get started on the work during the morning or evening on Thursday and Friday (avoiding the hottest time of the day), and then finish up with a larger group on Saturday morning the 13th. If you are available to help for a while on ANY of these dates, please contact Walt Hansen at 832-755-8097 or email@example.com to let him know when you are available. If you can bring a wheelbarrow, rake and/or shovel, that would be very helpful! Also, we hope to get started on doing some weeding of the flower beds in preparation for adding mulch, so any help with weeding would also be appreciated!
ARE YOU GRADUATING from high school or college this year? We want to honor you in our special graduation bulletin on May 21st. Graduating students or their parents are asked to contact the church office at 281-482-7821 or firstname.lastname@example.org with the student’s name, the school that he or she will graduate from and the degree and major (for college students). High school graduates will be honored during the 10:45 a.m. service on May 21st.
WE WISH TO THANK all those that helped, supported, volunteered and more for our week of Family Promise! We certainly could not have done it without church support, and we know that’s the reason for the successful week. The families were well-fed and well-loved. If you were a part of the week, we know that you were blessed with serving! (Our next hosting is July 9th-15th, so mark your calendars!) With much gratitude, Beth Skeeter and Desiree Trevino

MARK YOUR CALENDAR for Friday, June 9th and plan to join us for a summer concert by LouAnn Lee. LouAnn is a pastor’s wife, a mother, a worship leader and the women’s pastor at Celebration Community Fellowship in Auburn, California. She is also an international recording artist and speaker. COMING SOON: “SUMMER SUNDAYS”! Beginning on June 4th, we will transition to our summer schedule of one combined worship service at 10:00 a.m. These combined services will feature a blend of musical styles. We look forward to once again having the opportunity to all worship together as one church family over the summer months. You are invited to come early for breakfast, which will be served at 9:00 a.m., followed by a brief, intergenerational liturgy of song, scripture and prayer which will be led by different individuals or families each week. We anticipate that this time will be something in which children 1st grade and up could easily participate; children younger than 1st grade can be taken to the nursery following breakfast, at about 9:25. Our regular schedule of two worship services and age-grouped Sunday School classes will resume for the fall on August 20th for Promotion Sunday. If you would like to help with breakfast preparation please contact Gayle Jircik for more information.
