JUNIOR & SENIOR HIGH LAKE PARTY The annual End of Summer Lake Parties are here! We’ll meet at Stutzman’s Lake TODAY. The Junior High party will be from 4-6 p.m.  and Senior High from 6-8 p.m. Incoming 9th graders – this is the first event for you to attend as part of the Senior High group! Incoming 6thgraders are invited to be a part of the Junior High group. Jr. High and Sr. High students with the last name A-M bring a snack to share, and N-Z bring a dessert. Drinks will be provided! Invite your friends and join us for some summer fun!

A MEETING FOR PARENTS OF JUNIOR & SENIOR HIGH STUDENTS will take place TODAY between the two Lake Parties. We hope that parents will join us from 5:45-6:15 p.m. while picking up your Junior Higher or dropping off your Senior Higher. Along with meeting Josiah and Courtney Brown (if you haven’t already) you will hear about the upcoming semester’s schedule and have an opportunity to ask questions. DON’T MISS THE TRAIN! CALLING ALL KIDS (3yrs. – 5th grade) come catch the “Promotion Sunday Express Train”. It leaves the Station on Sunday, August 20th at 9:00 a.m. Hitch a ride to your new class. We’ll celebrate, pray for our new school year and meet our new Sunday school teachers! If you have only attended Children’s Church but haven’t yet been to Sunday school – come to the promotion Sunday party and try it out! Updated children’s Sunday school classroom schedules are available on the kiosk. (Train rental provided by Manvel Moon Walks.)

TWEENS begins a new term on Thursday, August 17th, starting at 3:15 p.m. in the Friends Center Gym. This is for kids in the 4th and 5th grades.

REMINDER, the Summer Sunday schedule (one worship service at 10:00 a.m.) has been extended through the month of September. We’ll begin holding Sunday School classes again on August 20th, at 9:00 a.m. (in place of breakfast), and see how this schedule works through the month of September. Our music in worship will continue to blend styles and accompaniment like we have on Summer Sundays (and according to the availability of our volunteer musicians). From now through September 19th, the Coordinators and Elders welcome your feedback concerning this issue. We will also hold a “town hall” meeting on August 20th immediately following worship for you to give feedback and input into our decision making. 

PRIMETIMERS will enjoy a “No Covered Dish/No Cookin’ Lunch” this Thursday, August 17th at Kelley’s Country Cookin’ Restaurant, 2933 Broadway (FM 518) in Pearland. If you plan to attend please contact Janis McIntosh. To schedule a ride please contact Marge Kelly . Those desiring to carpool may meet at our church parking lot at 11:30 a.m. We will all plan to be at Kelley’s at 11:45 a.m. to enjoy their home cookin’, Dutch treat. Bring a friend or two and count on a good time together. 

FRIENDS CHORALE will begin rehearsals today at 5:00 p.m. New members are welcome!. Other rehearsal dates will be August 20th & 27th. For more information, contact Becky Towne. 

KIDS CAN DO STARTS SOON on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and is open to kids ages 3 years through 5th grade.

PLEASE PRAY for the Leaverton family during this difficult time of treatment for Mike’s leukemia. There is also another way that you can help – our church will be providing 2 meals per week for the family (Tuesdays and Thursdays for the coming weeks). If you would be willing to help by bringing a meal (homemade or takeout are both fine), you can contact the church office at 281-482-7821 to sign up for a date, or you can sign up on line at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080948a8af2ba6f85-meals. There is also a link to the sign-up sheet on our church website. If you have questions, contact the church office. We are also collecting magazines for the MD Anderson waiting room. If you have fairly recent magazines that you no longer need, you can bring them to the church office. Thanks for helping to bless the Leaverton family as well as other cancer patients.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR for Saturday, September 2. We will be hosting a blood drive from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on behalf on Mike Leaverton through MD Anderson. Platelets are the most crucial need, but whole blood will also be accepted. Watch for info on how to sign up next week.  

CALLING ALL FRESHMEN AND SOPHOMORES: In addition to the Sunday night CORE gathering, all Freshmen and Sophomores are invited to take part in a new small group on Wednesday evenings, beginning August 23rd from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Friends Center. This space will be an incredibly fun and valuable time of learning, laughing and community – you don’t want to miss it!
