Sermon: David Bridges
YOU ARE INVITED to a Town Hall meeting immediately following the service TODAY in the Coffee Café. We will be discussing the Summer Sunday services and ask for your feedback on this topic. Come ready to offer your opinions and listen to others.
KIDS’ HOPE USA: We need new volunteers to work as either mentors, prayer partners, or substitute mentors this year! Our Kids’ Hope program partners adults in our congregations with at-risk students from Westwood and Bales. Mentors meet with students one-on-one for one hour each week during normal school hours to serve as a positive role model and friend for their student. Prayer partners are assigned to pray for the mentors and students, and substitutes are placed on a call sheet to help sub for mentors who might have a conflict with their assigned meeting times. For more information if you are interested in serving in one of these positions (we need people in all 3!), please contact Beth Stanfield email@example.com or Bobby Kirkpatrick at firstname.lastname@example.org.
THERE ARE A FEW SPOTS LEFT on the sign up list for meals for the Leaverton family. If you would like to help out, please call the church office or sign up on line at http://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080948a8af2ba6f85-meals. We also continue to collect magazines for the patient waiting areas at MD Anderson. If you have some to donate, just bring them to the church office.
THE FIRST JR. HIGH FUSE gathering is this evening from 6:00-7:00. Please encourage your Junior High students to come and join us! We’ll be playing games together, having snacks and talking about expectations for the year.
SR. HIGH CORE will begin meeting tonight from 7:30-9:00. Please encourage your Senior High students to come and be a part of this gathering! We will be playing games, worshipping together and talking about “Why CORE?”
REMINDER, the Summer Sunday schedule (one worship service at 10:00 a.m.) has, starting today been extended through the month of September. We’ll begin holding Sunday School classes again at 9:00 a.m. (in place of breakfast), and see how this schedule works through the month of September. Our music in worship will continue to blend styles and accompaniment like we have on Summer Sundays (and according to the availability of our volunteer musicians). From now through September 19th, the Coordinators and Elders welcome your feedback concerning this issue. We will also hold a “town hall” meeting TODAY immediately following worship for you to give feedback and input into our decision making.
A PLATELET AND BLOOD DRIVE to benefit Mike Leaverton will held in the Friends Center Gym on Saturday, September 2nd from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. As Mike battles leukemia, he has needed large quantities of platelets each day while awaiting the stem cell transplant, so we are trying to help meet that need. You can schedule an appointment online at http://tinyurl.com/friends 4life0917. Whole blood will be accepted, but platelets are the most crucial need, so if you can possibly donate platelets, please click on the “platelet” link on the webpage to set up a platelet appointment. Remember to bring a photo ID with you to the appointment and to eat something before donating. If you can’t make it on September 2nd but would still like to donate blood or platelets on Mike’s behalf, you can call the MD Anderson blood bank at 713-792-7777 to set up an appointment at an alternate location. Thanks for helping with this important need!
