BULLETIN ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR AUGUST 27, 2017

Sermon: David Bridges
“Our Hopes and Commitments”

THE FLOWERS ON THE ALTAR TODAY are in celebration, praise and thanks to God for blessing our marriage, family and church over the past 31 years. Michael and Holly Beckman

KIDS’ HOPE USA: We need new volunteers to work as either mentors, prayer partners, or substitute mentors this year! Our Kids’ Hope program partners adults in our congregations with at-risk students from Westwood and Bales. Mentors meet with students one-on-one for one hour each week during normal school hours to serve as a positive role model and friend for their student. Prayer partners are assigned to pray for the mentors and students, and substitutes are placed on a call sheet to help sub for mentors who might have a conflict with their assigned meeting times. For more information if you are interested in serving in one of these positions (we need people in all 3!), please contact Beth Stanfield at beth@stanfieldproperties.com or Bobby Kirkpatrick at bobby@friendswoodfriends.org.

THANK YOU! Women’s and missions ministries are so grateful for your support and participation in the Boutique sale! We made about $1800 that will go towards supporting our ministries. We thank God for his blessings!!

ATTENTION LADIES: PROGRESSIVE DINNER! Please join us on Wednesday, September 13th at 6:30 p.m. in the Coffee Cafe for a different spin on a Progressive Dinner. This is always so much fun and we always look forward to this dinner together. Once we have a total count, each person will be assigned a dish to bring (appetizer, dessert, salad or a main dish.) This is an evening to relax and join together in fellowship with each other.  Hope to see you all there! Please RSVP to Beth Stanfield by September 10th at  beth@stanfieldproperties.com

LADIES EVENING BIBLE STUDY will begin on Wednesday, September 13th. We’ll meet each Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. at the home of Kimberly Sheets. All women in FFC and any friends or family members are invited to attend this small group study. We will use the “Life Lessons: Book of Romans, God’s Big Picture” study guide by Max Lucado. The cost for the study guide is $10, and they will be available the first night we meet. Please e-mail Kimberly so she can make sure she has plenty of study guides.

WE ARE COLLECTING MATERIALS to help bless one of the newest Friends Churches – a Nepalese congregation in Ft. Worth, most of whose members are refugees from Nepal and Bhutan. This church is in need of materials for children’s Sunday School –crayons, coloring books, paper, markers, Bible story books, and new or gently used toys like blocks, dolls, games, and other preschool toys. If you have items that you would like to donate, please bring them to the church on or before Sunday, September 3rd. This congregation, Living Friends Church, is experiencing exciting growth – from 4 people to over 100 in just one year! However, most members have very limited financial resources and struggle even to provide food for their families, so our help will be a great blessing to their ministry.

REMINDER, the Summer Sunday schedule (one worship service at 10:00 a.m.) has been extended through the month of September. We’ll begin holding Sunday School classes again at 9:00 a.m., and see how this schedule works through the month of September. Our music in worship will continue to blend styles and accompaniment like we have on Summer Sundays (and according to the availability of our volunteer musicians). From now through September 19th, the Coordinators and Elders welcome your feedback concerning this issue.

A PLATELET AND BLOOD DRIVE to benefit Mike Leaverton will held in the Friends Center Gym on Saturday, September 2nd from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. As Mike battles leukemia, he has needed large quantities of platelets each day while awaiting the stem cell transplant, so we are trying to help meet that need. You can schedule an appointment online at http://tinyurl.com/friends 4life0917. Whole blood will be accepted, but platelets are the most crucial need, so if you can possibly donate platelets, please click on the “platelet” link on the webpage to set up a platelet appointment. Remember to bring a photo ID with you to the appointment and to eat something before donating. If you can’t make it on September 2nd but would still like to donate blood or platelets on Mike’s behalf, you can call the MD Anderson blood bank at 713-792-7777 to set up an appointment at an alternate location. Please provide Mike’s patient ID #0892948 when scheduling. Thanks for helping with this important need!

SAVE THE DATE! Missions Fun Run will be right here on our campus on November 4th! Please contact Molly Black if you’re interested in helping out!
