BULLETIN ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR SEPTEMBER 10, 2017

Sermon: David Bridges

THANK YOU to those who provided altar flowers for the last few Sundays, and we apologize that we did not have a printed bulletin to share your announcements. The flowers on September 3rd were given by Jack Baker & Jennifer Carpenter and Phillip & Anna Baker in celebration of the 67th wedding anniversary of Benny and Gloria Baker, as well as the 18th birthday of daughter/sister, Camryn Bish. The flowers on August 27th were given by Mike and Holly Beckman in celebration, praise and thanks to God for blessing their marriage, family and church over the past 31 years. Congratulations and best wishes to these families!

LADIES, you are invited to join us for the fall Bible study which will begin on Wednesday, September 13th. A light breakfast will be served at 9:15 a.m., followed by the study at 9:30. We’ll finish by 11 a.m. Our book for this session is Breathe: Making Room for Sabbath by Priscilla Shirer. Books will be available at the first class; the cost is $9.99. Nursery care will be provided. Come and bring a friend to enjoy this time of fellowship and study!

A SUPPORT GROUP for those who have been affected by Hurricane Harvey will meet from 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. today in the Parlor. Individuals who are interested in participating will continue to meet weekly this fall. These sessions will be facilitated by Rochelle Bridges, who is a licensed counselor with a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Feel free to invite friends and neighbors who you think might be interested. In this first session, you can expect to obtain more information about topics that will be covered over the next several weeks as well as determining a day and time to continue meeting. Additionally, there will be time for sharing and processing your experience within a safe and confidential setting. There is no cost to participate.

LADIES’ EVENING BIBLE STUDY will begin on Wednesday, September 13th. We’ll meet each Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. at the home of Kimberly Sheets. All women in FFC and any friends or family members are invited to attend this small group study. We will use the “Life Lessons: Book of Romans, God’s Big Picture” study guide by Max Lucado. The cost for the study guide is $10, and they will be available the first night we meet. Please e-mail Kimberly so she can make sure she has plenty of study guides.

THE LADIES’ PROGRESSIVE DINNER that was scheduled for this coming Wednesday has been postponed. It will be rescheduled for sometime in October. More information will be available soon.

JUNIOR HIGH GIRLS STUDY will be starting THIS SUNDAY, September 10th, from 5-6 p.m. in Friends Center. Sara Wilber will be leading the girls through Girl Talk – The Power of Your Words, by Pam Gibbs. We’ll meet for 5 weeks, and will provide pizza and drinks each week. The only cost to you is a one-time payment of $10 to help offset the total cost of food, drinks and the workbook.

GET READY FOR KIDS CAN DO on Wednesday evenings beginning September 13th from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. KCD is open to kids ages 3 years through 5th grade and is focused on serving others. We do things like put together “Blessing Bags” to be distributed to the needy and the homeless, make crafts for our local Meals on Wheels clients, sing at nearby nursing homes, make homemade dog biscuits for the local animal shelter, and other fun projects.

REMINDER, the Summer Sunday schedule (one worship service at 10:00 a.m.) has been extended through the month of September. We’ll begin holding Sunday School classes again at 9:00 a.m., and see how this schedule works through the month of September. Our music in worship will continue to blend styles and accompaniment like we have on Summer Sundays (and according to the availability of our volunteer musicians). From now through September 19th, the Coordinators and Elders welcome your feedback concerning this issue.

KIDS’ HOPE USA: We need new volunteers to work as either mentors, prayer partners, or substitute mentors this year! Our Kids’ Hope program partners adults in our congregations with at-risk students from Westwood and Bales. Mentors meet with students one-on-one for one hour each week during normal school hours to serve as a positive role model and friend for their student. Prayer partners are assigned to pray for the mentors and students, and substitutes are placed on a call sheet to help sub for mentors who might have a conflict with their assigned meeting times. For more information if you are interested in serving in one of these positions (we need people in all 3!), please contact Beth Stanfield or Bobby Kirkpatrick.
