“It Is Well with My Soul”
THE FLOWERS ON THE ALTAR TODAY are in honor of God’s blessings on our marriage and family. September 17th marks the day we started dating 29 years ago, which, so far, brings 24 fantastic years of marriage and 5 great kids and wonderful memories! We daily give God the glory for our lives. May we sing praises to His name in all circumstances. – Joe & Michelle Hancock
CONGRATULATIONS to Nathan and Jenna Sheets on the birth of their daughter, Allison Eve Sheets, on Saturday, September 9th. Our congratulations and best wishes also go to the proud grandparents, Duane & Kimberly Sheets, Bruce & Sharon Cline, and great-grandma Carol Cline Vaughn. Allison is welcomed home by her big sister Adelyn.
OUR HEARTFELT SYMPATHY goes to the family of Kay Beggs. Kay passed away on September 3rd. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 30th at 10 a.m. in the Worship Center.
OUR GUEST MUSICIAN TODAY is flutist, Donna Jerz of the Clear Lake Symphony. She will play “Adagio” by Mozart for the prelude, “Two Arias in Rondo” by Naudot for the offertory, and “Rondo” also by Mozart, for the postlude.
BIBLE QUIZ PARENT INFO MEETING : We’re excited to get our Bible Quiz season off and running again for this year! Interested parents and students (7th & 8th grade) are invited to attend an informational meeting Sunday, September 24th from 4-5 p.m. in the youth room. If your student has even the slightest interest in Bible Quiz, please don’t miss this meeting. We’ll discuss the travel schedule and fundraising ideas along with giving some basic information about the program. Practices will take place on Sunday evenings from 4:45 p.m. – 6.p.m. beginning on October 22nd, with Tena Roher as our head coach. Bible Quiz is the best thing going for 7th & 8th Graders! It’s a fun, competitive, and in-depth way to get students to study and memorize Scripture. Many of our high school students consider their participation in Bible Quiz to be one of their most spiritually formative experiences. We hope that all of our 7th and 8th grade students will consider giving it a try. If you have questions, contact Tena Roher or Josiah Brown.
A SUPPORT GROUP for those who have been affected by Hurricane Harvey will meet again from 1 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. today in the Parlor. Individuals who are interested in participating will continue to meet weekly this fall. These sessions will be facilitated by Rochelle Bridges, who is a licensed counselor with a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Feel free to invite friends and neighbors who you think might be interested.
THANK YOU for the incredible way that you have responded to the devastation in our community that was caused by Harvey. Our congregation (along with other churches in our community) has done an outstanding job of ministering to others through serving on work crews, donating supplies or funds, opening your homes to neighbors, making meals, doing laundry, and sharing Christ’s love in many other ways. May God continue to use Friendswood Friends Church to bless those around us who are in need!
DON’T FORGET KIDS CAN DO on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. KCD is open to kids ages 3 years through 5th grade and is focused on serving others.
REMINDER, the Summer Sunday schedule (one worship service at 10:00 a.m.) has been extended through the month of September. We’ll begin holding Sunday School classes again at 9:00 a.m., and see how this schedule works through the month of September. Our music in worship will continue to blend styles and accompaniment like we have on Summer Sundays (and according to the availability of our volunteer musicians). From now through September 19th, the Coordinators and Elders welcome your feedback concerning this issue.

KIDS’ HOPE USA: We need new volunteers to work as either mentors, prayer partners, or substitute mentors this year! Our Kids’ Hope program partners adults in our congregations with at-risk students from Westwood and Bales. Mentors meet with students one-on-one for one hour each week during normal school hours to serve as a positive role model and friend for their student. Prayer partners are assigned to pray for the mentors and students, and substitutes are placed on a call sheet to help sub for mentors who might have a conflict with their assigned meeting times. For more information if you are interested in serving in one of these positions (we need people in all 3!), please contact Beth Stanfield or Bobby Kirkpatrick.
