BULLETIN ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR OCTOBER 1, 2017

Sermon: Everett Jantz
“Excuses on Holy Ground”
Exodus 3 & 4

THE FLOWERS ON THE ALTAR TODAY are in honor of Kim and Cindy Page’s 48th wedding anniversary, and with thanksgiving for this wonderful church family.

CONGRATULATIONS to Eric and Angela Earnshaw on the birth of their daughter! Madelyn Kate Earnshaw was born on September 23rd. Brian and Chantel Bush are the proud grandparents. Madelyn is welcomed home by big sisters Kayla & Alyssa and big brother Shane.

OCTOBER IS PASTOR APPRECIATION MONTH! Our presiding clerk and church coordinators encourage you to find a way to express appreciation to our pastors who serve so faithfully. Many of us have a tradition of showing appreciation with gift cards, which are much appreciated, but here are some other ideas for gestures that would be meaningful to them: 1. Come to church EVERY Sunday in October! 2. Invite a friend to come with you.  3. Commit to pray for our pastors every day in October – and let them know that you are doing so.  4. Take time to send a note or email mentioning specific ways that they have been a blessing to you.

A FLU SHOT CLINIC will take place on Sunday, October 22nd from 9:30-11:30 a.m. No appointment is necessary, just stop by the Coffee Café to get your shot. The high dose shots for senior citizens will also be available. Bring your insurance card with you as many plans cover the cost of flu shots. Price information for self-pay will be available soon.

REGISTER NOW for our All-Church Fall Retreat! Everyone is invited to join us from 7 p.m. on November 10th through noon of the 12th at Forest Glen Camp (just outside of Huntsville). We’ll be staying in air conditioned/heated cabins, so no need to bring tents or camping gear. The cost of $90 for adults or $50 for kids 3 – 11 yrs. (children under 3 are free) includes 2 nights lodging, 4 meals, and lots of optional activities such as canoeing, hikes, campfire, sports & games, etc. The program will be loosely structured so that you will have the freedom to spend time alone relaxing and enjoying nature, or to engage in groups and activities as much as you like. Space is limited, so pick up a registration form from the kiosk or download a copy from the church website at friendswoodfriends.org. Your full payment and completed registration will reserve a spot. If you have questions, contact Josiah Brown, Bobby Kirkpatrick or Janet Black at 281-482-7821.

KIDS’ HOPE USA: We need new volunteers to work as either mentors, prayer partners, or substitute mentors this year! Our Kids’ Hope program partners adults in our congregations with at-risk students from Westwood and Bales. Mentors meet with students one-on-one for one hour each week during normal school hours to serve as a positive role model and friend for their student. Prayer partners are assigned to pray for the mentors and students, and substitutes are placed on a call sheet to help sub for mentors who might have a conflict with their assigned meeting times. For more information if you are interested in serving in one of these positions (we need people in all 3!), please contact Beth Stanfield or Bobby Kirkpatrick.

DO YOU SHOP ON AMAZON? If so, please consider designating Friendswood Friends Church as your preferred charity through the “Amazon Smile” Program, and Amazon will donate .5% of your total purchase amount to the church at no extra cost to you.  You can do this by following this link: https://smile.amazon.com/ch/74-1300892 or sign up for Amazon Smile and look for Friendswood Friends Church on the list of eligible charities. Once you have designated a charity, you simply need to access Amazon through the website smile.amazon.com instead of amazon.com, and the church will automatically receive your contribution. It’s an easy way to help support the ministries of our church at no cost to you! Contact the church office if you have questions.

OUR NEXT FAMILY PROMISE HOST WEEK IS COMING UP from October 15th – 22nd. Many volunteers are needed to make this ministry a success, so please consider signing up to help.  Stop by the Family Promise table in the foyer after today’s service to sign up, or see info below about online signups.
