DO YOU SHOP ON AMAZON? If so, please consider designating Friendswood Friends Church as your preferred charity through the “Amazon Smile” Program, and Amazon will donate .5% of your total purchase amount to the church at no extra cost to you.  You can do this by following this link: https://smile.amazon.com/ch/74-1300892 or sign up for Amazon Smile and look for Friendswood Friends Church on the list of eligible charities. Once you have designated a charity, you can access Amazon through the website smile.amazon.com instead of amazon.com, and the church will automatically receive your contribution. It’s a simple way to help support the ministries of our church at no cost to you! Contact the church office if you have questions.

OCTOBER IS PASTOR APPRECIATION MONTH! Our presiding clerk and church coordinators encourage you to find a way to express appreciation to our pastors who serve so faithfully. Many of us have a tradition of showing appreciation with gift cards, which are much appreciated, but here are some other ideas for gestures that would be meaningful to them: 1. Come to church EVERY Sunday in October! 2. Invite a friend to come with you.  3. Commit to pray for our pastors every day in October – and let them know that you are doing so.  4. Take time to send a note or email mentioning specific ways that they have been a blessing to you.

YOUNG ADULTS are invited to join us for a new group that will meet on Monday evenings beginning on October 16th.  We’ll gather in the Coffee Café kitchen at 6:30 p.m. for dinner together and then move to the Brides Room for fellowship and study, finishing up by 7:45. Child care is provided. For more information, contact Bobby Kirkpatrick at 281-482-7821 or bobby@friendswoodfriends.org.

REGISTER NOW for our All-Church Fall Retreat! Everyone is invited to join us from 7 p.m. on November 10th through noon of the 12th at Forest Glen Camp (just outside of Huntsville). We’ll be staying in air conditioned/heated cabins, so no need to bring tents or camping gear. The cost of $90 for adults or $50 for kids 3 – 11yrs. (children under 3 are free) includes 2 nights lodging, 4 meals, and lots of optional activities such as canoeing, hikes, campfire, sports & games, etc. The program will be loosely structured so that you will have the freedom to spend time alone relaxing and enjoying nature, or to engage in groups and activities as much as you like. Space is limited, so pick up a registration form from the kiosk or download a copy from the church website at friendswoodfriends.org. Your full payment and completed registration will reserve a spot. If you have questions, contact Josiah Brown, Bobby Kirkpatrick or Janet Black at 281-482-7821.

KIDS’ HOPE USA: We need new volunteers (especially men) to work as either mentors, prayer partners, or substitute mentors this year! For more information if you are interested in serving in one of these positions (we need people in all 3!), please contact Beth Stanfield.

STOP BY the “What the Pastor Is Reading” display at the kiosk to pick up a copy of Mending the Divides by Jon Huckins and Jer Swigart. The cost is $15 per book. Huckins and Swigart believe that because peacemaking is the mission of God, it should also be the vocation of his people. So peace is no longer understood as merely the absence of conflict―peace is when relationships once severed have been repaired and restored. Mending the Divides equips disciples of Jesus to move toward conflict and seek the restoration of our relationships, our communities, and our world, offering practical steps to engage in the kingdom-building work of waging peace. If you want to take a copy, just leave your $15 in the basket.

OUR NEXT FAMILY PROMISE HOST WEEK IS COMING UP from October 15th – 22nd. Many volunteers are needed to make this ministry a success, so please consider signing up to help.  Stop by the Family Promise table in the foyer after today’s service to sign up, or see info below about online signups.
