Sermon: David Bridges
The Intended Results of Worship
Amos 5.21-24

THE PRIMETIMERS POTLUCK LUNCHEON takes place on Thursday, November 16th at 11:30 a.m. in the Coffee Café. Entertainment will be provided by the FUNTIME RECORDER BAND led by our own Marian Gordner. This is a group from the Friendswood Senior Center who are keeping their minds active and their fingers moving by learning to play a new instrument. Come, bring your favorite covered dish and join in the fun, food and fellowship! Invite a friend or two!

TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE NOW for our annual Thanksgiving dinner, which will take place on Sunday, November 19th at 5:00 p.m. This will be a delicious catered dinner of turkey, ham and all the trimmings. The cost is $15 per ticket for adults and teens, or $10 per ticket for ages 6-12 (kids age 5 and under are free). You can pick up tickets in the Coffee Café following the worship service, or in the church office during the week. Please purchase your tickets on or before Wednesday, November 15th so that we can provide a final count to the caterer. Plan to join us for a delicious meal and the opportunity to spend time together as a church family as we celebrate and give thanks for God’s many blessings to us. The dinner will be followed by our traditional auction – see the auction announcement for how you can help!

REMINDER: The missions team is selling cookbooks in the Coffee Café for $15! Thanks for supporting our commitments to missionaries and ministries.

THE FOOD PANTRY thanks you for your ongoing support. Items that are critically needed at this time are; peanut butter, jelly, boxed macaroni & cheese, spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, rice, dry beans, cake mixes, canned frosting, sweet bread mixes (ie; banana & pumpkin) and personal care items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap, shampoo & deoderant. A complete list is available on the kiosk.

STOP BY THE MISSIONS TABLE in the Coffee Café to see the beautiful quilt created by the “Bee Pieceful” Quilting group that meets at our church. The quilt was donated by these ladies to be used as a fundraiser for missions in gratitude for allowing them to meet here, and will be raffled off in December. Tickets are available for $10 each, with 100% of the proceeds going to our missions fund. The quilt would make a great Christmas gift, or a beautiful addition to your own home, while also helping to bless our missionaries who are serving faithfully around the world. You can pick up tickets from now through mid-December, or purchase them online at https://goo.gl/forms/N9NH1E6CfFGWGs92.

THE HOPE LUTHERAN CHURCH IN FRIENDSWOOD will be hosting a community wide Thanksgiving Eve Worship Service to give thanks to God for all His blessings and goodness toward us. Special recognition will be given to first responders in our community who worked so hard during Hurricane Harvey. The service will take place on Wednesday, November 22nd at 7:00 p.m. in the  Hope Lutheran Church sanctuary. Everyone is invited.

HELP IS NEEDED with this week’s visiting work teams for Harvey Relief. This will be the last week that we are hosting out of town teams until next January. This week we are in need of housing for a few couples as well as help with food.  If you can help to house one couple this week OR provide one evening meal for the group, please contact Cindy Page for more details. Local volunteers to work alongside these visitors would also be very welcome!

BIBLE QUIZ PIE SALE FUNDRAISER: Today is the last day that our Bible Quiz Team students are taking orders for delicious homemade pies. The cost is $20 for pumpkin pies and $25 for pecan or apple pies. You can place your order at the table in the Coffee Café after the gathering for worship. The pies will be available for pick up at the church on Sunday morning, November 19th. If you have questions, contact Josiah Brown at josiah@friendswoodfriends.org. Thank you for helping to support our quiz team!

IRS ASSISTANCE FOR HARVEY VICTIMS: The Internal Revenue Service has announced several tax relief provisions available to victims of Hurricane Harvey. These include extensions of deadlines for filing and paying taxes, special provisions for hardship distributions from 401(k) plans, an option for retroactive claims of unreimbursed disaster losses to 2016 (allowing refunds to be received sooner than if declaring losses for 2017), waiver of fees for expedited copies of previously filed tax returns, and provisions for employer-sponsored leave for hurricane relief.  For more information, see the disaster relief page at irs.gov.

AUCTION FOR MISSIONS: This year’s Thanksgiving auction will benefit missions at home and abroad! Because the reGeneration trip for our students is taking place in Dickinson this year, they do not need to raise travel costs. However, our missions fund is in serious need of a “shot in the arm” to finish out our yearly commitments to missionaries and local ministries. So for this year only, all proceeds from the Thanksgiving auction will go to missions. Would you consider donating something that could be part of the auction? Our main focus for donated items is dinners or outings that also involve building relationships. For example, you could donate something like an Italian dinner in your home, or a fishing trip on your boat, or you could donate a meal that you would host at a particular restaurant. Along with these dinners or outings, we would also accept items such as use of a vacation home, a themed gift basket, tickets to a sporting event, etc. These items will be auctioned off immediately following the meal on November 19th. If you are willing to donate something for the auction, please sign up with details at the pie sale table following the service. For questions, contact Bobby Kirkpatrick, Josiah Brown or Molly Black. Thanks for helping to bless our mission work locally and around the world!
