COORDINATORS MINUTES for 2017 have been posted to the church website in a password protected file. You can access the minutes by using the password friends (all lowercase, no punctuation).

A CONGREGATIONAL BUSINESS MEETING will be held on Sunday, February 25th in the Coffee Café immediately following the worship service. The main purpose of the meeting is to seek congregational approval for the proposed budget for 2018 which has been created by the Stewards and approved by the Coordinators. Copies of the proposed budget are available on the church website in a password protected file; the password is friends. There are also printed copies of the proposed budget on the kiosk. Everyone is welcome to attend the meeting. Nursery care will be available for young children.

PRIMETIMERS will enjoy a “Beat the Winter Blues Luncheon” this Thursday, February 15th at Kelley’s Country Cookin’ Restaurant, 1100 N. Hwy 35 Bypass, in Alvin. The dress code is cheery attire; conversations will be tall tales, chuckles and memories that make you smile. A prize will be awarded to the person with the most cheerful or craziest socks. Please contact Marge Kelly to let her know you will attend so a count can be given to the restaurant, also if you would like to schedule a ride. Those desiring to carpool may meet at our church parking lot at 11:15 a.m. We will all plan to be at Kelley’s at 11:30 a.m. to enjoy their home cookin’, Dutch treat. Bring a friend or two and count on a good time together.

INTRODUCTION TO FRIENDSWOOD FRIENDS CHURCH: Would you like to know more about what this church believes and how it began? Come to this informal gathering, which is designed to help you meet others and understand our church. We will meet in the Coffee Café on Sunday, February 18th immediately following the worship service and will finish by 12:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome! Light refreshments will be served. If you plan to attend and will need childcare, please contact the church office to let us know the ages of your children so that we can make arrangements for the needed workers.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR for our upcoming hosting weeks for Family Promise. We are scheduled to host families for the weeks of April 15-22 and July 8-15.

MISSIONS COMMITMENT SUNDAY Today we are celebrating and learning more about the ministries that our church is involved in around the world. We ask you to prayerfully consider making a commitment to be a part of these ministries through prayer, giving and/or volunteering.  Our goal for 2018 is to raise $51,600 to help support the following ministries:

  • Brian and Kylie C.
  • Michael and Kathryn L.
  • Jack and Celesta Rea’s work in Hong Kong/China.
  • David Thomas and Brad and Chelsea Carpenter in Discipling for Development in Rwanda, Burundi and beyond.

We are excited to learn what God has in store for us with mission projects in foreign lands. We are praying for His direction about how and where we volunteer and care for our missionaries and mission fields. What a privilege we have to be a part of what God is doing in other communities around the world. Prayer is a crucial part of ANY ministry, but in some ways it can be harder to commit to regular, fervent prayer than to just slip some money into the offering plate. Would you be willing to choose at least one missionary or ministry to pray for regularly in 2018? Thank you to those of you who are already praying faithfully! If you would like to learn more about what we are planning for missions, you are encouraged to pick up an information flyer from the kiosk.

DO YOU SHOP ON AMAZON? If so, please consider designating Friendswood Friends Church as your preferred charity through the “Amazon Smile” Program, and Amazon will donate .5% of your total purchase amount to the church at no extra cost to you. You can do this by following this link: https://smile.amazon.com/ch/74-1300 892 or sign up for Amazon Smile and look for Friendswood Friends Church on the list of eligible charities. Once you have designated a charity, you can access Amazon through the website smile.amazon.com instead of amazon.com, and the church will automatically receive your contribution. It’s a simple way to help support the ministries of our church at no cost to you! Contact the church office if you have questions.

OUR NEW CHURCH DIRECTORIES are nearing completion, but we are still missing a few photos. If you have not yet submitted a photo, would you be willing to have your picture taken following the worship service TODAY? Rochelle Bridges and Sandi Allbritton will be taking photos. Or, if you already have a good photo, please email it to joyce@friendswoodfriends.org this week. We hope to finish up work on the directories in the next few weeks so that we can print them and get them to the congregation. Our hope is that this will be a helpful tool for allowing us to get to know one another better and to put names with faces. Thank you for your participation!
