ALTAR FLOWERS – Happy 68th Wedding Anniversary to Benny and Gloria Baker from all their children, in-laws and grandchildren, with lots of love.

THE CHURCH OFFICE will be closed on Monday, September 3rd for Labor Day.

CAN YOU HELP US to care for the environment by volunteering to pick up church recyclables about once a month? Our “Green Friends” group has set up a rotation of volunteers who take turns picking up paper & plastic to be recycled. Timing is very flexible; you can come by the church any time during your assigned week, and paper and cardboard can simply be dropped off in the large bins at a nearby school. If you’d like to help or want more information, contact Mark Rubash.  

MUSIC REHEARSALS for several of our groups will soon resume for the fall! Rehearsals for the Chorale will take place on Sunday evenings at 5 p.m. beginning next Sunday, September 9th. The “Girlfriends” chorus will rehearse after the worship service on Sunday mornings, also beginning on the 9th. The bell choir will rehearse on Thursdays at 5 p.m. in Friends Center. For more information about any of these groups, contact Nancy Hansen.  

GET READY FOR KIDS CAN DO on Wednesday evenings beginning September 5th from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. KCD is open to kids ages 3 years through 5th grade and is focused on serving others. We do things like make crafts for our local Meals on Wheels clients, sing at nearby nursing homes, make homemade dog biscuits for the local animal shelter, and other fun projects. Dinner will be served each week. This Wednesday will be Chick-fil-a.

YOUNG ADULTS: After a break for the summer, our young adult group is starting back up for the Fall! Beginning September 5th. We will be meeting in the Friends Center (gym building), starting in the kitchen area for a meal together from 6:30-7 p.m. and then meeting for coffee and a different discussion topic each week in the nearby parlor room from 7-7:45 p.m. Anyone who considers themselves a young adult is welcome; currently, our ages range from 18-35. LADIES, you are invited to join us for the fall Bible study which will begin on Wednesday, September 12th. A light breakfast will be served at 9:15 a.m., followed by the study at 9:30. We’ll finish by 11 a.m. Nursery care will be provided. Come and bring a friend to enjoy this time of fellowship and study!  

FAMILY PROMISE is in need of one or more used vehicles to make available to families while they are in the program. Having reliable transportation is an important step toward helping the parents that Family Promise serves be able to maintain stable employment and get back on their feet financially. If you would like more information about donating a vehicle to this ministry, please contact Shanna Kirkpatrick.

FAMILY PROMISE OF CLEAR CREEK will host its annual Gala on Saturday, October 20th from 5:30-9 p.m. at Hometown Heroes Park in League City. This year’s event is themed “Be the Light”, and will include dinner, entertainment, inspiration, and live and silent auctions. Tickets cost $75 and are available at www.ccfamilypromise.org. Auction donations are gratefully accepted; for information on the auction or event sponsorships, email fundraising@ccfamilypromise.org. 

FALL BEACH RETREAT: Mark your calendar for November 9th -11th  and plan to join us for our all-church fall retreat! This year’s retreat will be a bit different from previous years – instead of going to a camp we’ll be staying at beach houses in Galveston. The retreat is open for all ages – adults, students, and children, either individuals or families. The cost of $100 for adults and $75 for 3 years through high school includes 2 nights of lodging in beach houses as well as 4 meals. There is no charge for children under 3. The weekend will include 2 worship times, some optional group activities, and plenty of free time for enjoying the beach, exploring Galveston, relaxing on your own, or having fun with new friends. Reserve your spot by filling out one of the registration forms on the kiosk and turning it in with your payment. LADIES – SAVE THE DATE for our 2019 Women’s Retreat! We will be returning to Camp Tejas from February 1st – 3rd, 2019; make plans now to join us! More information about the retreat will be available this fall, but meanwhile, mark your calendar!

KIDS’ HOPE needs new volunteers to work as either mentors, prayer partners, or substitute mentors this year! Our Kids Hope program partners adults in our congregation with students from Westwood and Bales schools. The participants are students who teachers or administrators believe could benefit significantly from the kind of one-on-one mentoring relationships provided by Kids’ Hope. Mentors meet with students for one hour each week during normal school hours to serve as a positive role model and friend for their student. Prayer partners are assigned to pray for the mentors and students, and substitutes are placed on a call sheet to help sub for mentors who might have a conflict with their assigned meeting times. For more information if you are interested in serving in one of these positions (we need people in all 3!), please contact Beth Stanfield or Bobby Kirkpatrick.
