ALTAR FLOWERS: The flowers are given in celebration of Scott and Emmett Lee’s birthdays on September 27th and Kayla Lee’s birthday on the 29th. Happy birthday! – From the Lee family

CONGRATULATIONS to Blake and Jennifer Barmore on the birth of their daughter, Emilia Blake Barmore. Emilia was born on September 14th and joins her big sisters, Evelyn and Isla. Mike and Anna Barmore are the proud grandparents. Our prayers and best wishes go to the entire family!

QUESTIONS FOR SPIRITUAL GROWTH: For the next several weeks we will be featuring a different selection each week from the list of questions that our church elders wrote to help guide us as individuals and a congregation during 2018. The questions are based on our Hopes and Commitments Statement, with the themes of Loving, Learning and Listening. If you would like to have a complete copy of the Questions for Spiritual Growth or the Hopes and Commitments Statement, you can pick one up from the kiosk, or find them on the church website. This week’s question: “How do we know the difference between God’s will for our church and our own will?”

FAMILY PROMISE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Our next week to host Family Promise is coming up on October 14th-21st. We need volunteers who would be willing to help provide one of the evening meals, or to stay overnight at the church one night during the week. We also need a few volunteers to help care for the kids on Tuesday evening, October 16th while the parents take a class. Please contact Desiree Trevino or Beth Skeeter  if you would like to help.

NEW THIS FALL – the church is hosting Wednesday evening suppers that are shared by the Kids Can Do club, the young adult class and the junior high group. Dinner is served at 6:15 p.m., and the various groups divide up for their own activities following the meal. It would be a great help to have a few volunteers who could sign up to provide dessert for one of these suppers (either homemade or store bought desserts are great), or to help with clean up after the dinner one Wednesday. If you can help, contact Kenton Hannemann. We are also setting up an online form on Sign Up Genius which should be ready this week; you can contact the church office for information or look on our church website for the link.

LADIES – SAVE THE DATE for our 2019 Women’s Retreat! We will be returning to Camp Tejas from February 1st – 3rd, 2019; make plans now to join us! More information about the retreat will be available this fall, but meanwhile, mark your calendar!

TICKETS ARE ON SALE TODAY for a delicious BBQ lunch which will be served following the worship service on Sunday, October 14th! All proceeds will benefit our missions fund, so you have a chance to enjoy some of Travis Mantell’s amazing BBQ while also helping to support the work of our missionaries around the world.  “Early bird” pricing for BBQ tickets, now through October 10th, is $7 for children 10 and under, and $12 for age 11 through adults. The prices after October 10th will be $10 and $15, so stop by the Coffee Café to get your tickets early. Please contact Molly Black if you would be willing to provide a dessert.

FAMILY PROMISE OF CLEAR CREEK will host its annual Gala on Saturday, October 20th from 5:30-9 p.m. at Hometown Heroes Park in League City. This year’s event is themed “Be the Light”, and will include dinner, entertainment, inspiration, and live and silent auctions. Tickets cost $75 and are available at www.ccfamilypromise.org. Auction donations are gratefully accepted; for information on the auction or event sponsorships, email fundraising@ccfamilypromise.org.

CAN YOU HELP US to care for the environment by volunteering to pick up church recyclables about once a month? Our “Green Friends” group has set up a rotation of volunteers who take turns picking up paper & plastic to be recycled. If you’d like to help or want more information, please contact Mark Rubash.

FALL BEACH RETREAT: Mark your calendar for November 9th -11th  and plan to join us for our all-church fall retreat! This year’s retreat will be a bit different from previous years – instead of going to a camp we’ll be staying at beach houses in Galveston. The retreat is open for all ages – adults, students, and children, either individuals or families. The cost of $100 for adults and $75 for 3 years through high school includes 2 nights of lodging in beach houses as well as 4 meals. There is no charge for children under 3. The weekend will include 2 worship times, some optional group activities, and plenty of free time for enjoying the beach, exploring Galveston, relaxing on your own, or having fun with new friends. Reserve your spot by filling out one of the registration forms on the kiosk and turning it in with your payment. The deadline to register is October 21st. If you have questions, contact Bobby, Janet or Josiah at the church office.

DO YOU SHOP ON AMAZON? If so, please consider designating Friendswood Friends Church as your preferred charity through the “Amazon Smile” Program, and Amazon will donate .5% of your total purchase amount to the church at no extra cost to you. You can do this by following this link: https://smile.amazon.com/ch/74-1300 892 or sign up for Amazon Smile and look for Friendswood Friends Church on the list of eligible charities. Once you have designated a charity, you can access Amazon through the website smile.amazon.com instead of amazon.com, and the church will automatically receive your contribution. It’s a simple way to help support the ministries of our church at no cost to you! Contact the church office if you have questions.
