SERMON: Cindy Dawson
“What’s Missing?”
Exodus 14

ALTAR FLOWERS: The flowers are given by Kim and Cindy Page in celebration of their 49th wedding anniversary, and with very grateful hearts for all of life’s blessings.

CONGRATULATIONS to Joe Roher and Beth Roeh who were married last week in Canton, Ohio. The ceremony was officiated by their dear friend, Roy Skeeter. We’re happy for Joe and Beth and wish them the best!

QUESTIONS FOR SPIRITUAL GROWTH: For the next several weeks we will be featuring a different selection each week from the list of questions that our church elders wrote to help guide us as individuals and a congregation during 2018. The questions are based on our Hopes and Commitments Statement, with the themes of Loving, Learning and Listening. If you would like to have a complete copy of the Questions for Spiritual Growth or the Hopes and Commitments Statement, you can pick one up from the kiosk, or find them on the church website. This week’s question: “With national conversations becoming increasingly divisive, whom am I prone to judging too quickly?”

A FLU SHOT CLINIC will take place on Sunday, October 21st from 9:30-11:30 a.m. No appointment is necessary, just stop by the Coffee Café to get your shot. The high dose shots for senior citizens will also be available. Bring your insurance card with you as many plans cover the cost of flu shots.

FALL BEACH RETREAT: Sign up now for our all-church fall retreat November 9th -11th! This year’s retreat will be a bit different from previous years – instead of going to a camp we’ll be staying at beach houses in Galveston. The retreat is open for all ages – adults, students, and children, either individuals or families. The cost of $100 for adults and $75 for 3 years through high school includes 2 nights of lodging in beach houses as well as 4 meals. There is no charge for children under 3. The weekend will include 2 worship times, some optional group activities, and plenty of free time for enjoying the beach, exploring Galveston, relaxing on your own, or having fun with new friends. Reserve your spot by filling out one of the registration forms on the kiosk and turning it in with your payment. The deadline to register is approaching! If you have questions, contact Bobby, Janet or Josiah at the church office.

FAMILY PROMISE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Our next week to host Family Promise is coming up on October 14th– 21st. We need volunteers who would be willing to help provide one of the evening meals, or to stay overnight at the church one night during the week. We also need a few volunteers to help care for the kids on Tuesday evening, October 16th while the parents take a class. Please contact Desiree Trevino or Beth Skeeter if you would like to help.

NEW THIS FALL – the church is hosting Wednesday evening suppers that are shared by the Kids Can Do club, the young adult class and the junior high group. Dinner is served at 6:15 p.m., and the various groups divide up for their own activities following the meal. It would be a great help to have a few volunteers who could sign up to provide dessert for one of these suppers (either homemade or store bought desserts are great), or to help with clean up after the dinner one Wednesday. If you can help, contact Kenton Hannemann. We have also set up an online form on Sign Up Genius at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080A45AEA72AA1FA7-wednesday, or you can contact the church office for information.

LADIES – SAVE THE DATE for our 2019 Women’s Retreat! We will be returning to Camp Tejas from February 1st – 3rd, 2019; make plans now to join us! More information about the retreat will be available this fall, but meanwhile, mark your calendar!

DO YOU SHOP ON AMAZON? If so, please consider designating Friendswood Friends Church as your preferred charity through the “Amazon Smile” Program, and Amazon will donate .5% of your total purchase amount to the church at no extra cost to you. You can do this by following this link: https://smile.amazon.com/ch/74-1300 892 or sign up for Amazon Smile and look for Friendswood Friends Church on the list of eligible charities. Once you have designated a charity, you can access Amazon through the website smile.amazon.com instead of amazon.com, and the church will automatically receive your contribution. Contact the church office if you have questions.

TICKETS ARE ON SALE TODAY for a delicious BBQ lunch which will be served following the worship service on Sunday, October 14th! All proceeds will benefit our missions fund, so you have a chance to enjoy some of Travis Mantell’s amazing BBQ while also helping to support the work of our missionaries around the world.  “Early bird” pricing for BBQ tickets, now through October 10th, is $7 for children 10 and under, and $12 for age 11 through adults. The prices after October 10th will be $10 and $15, so stop by the Coffee Café to get your tickets early. Celesta has been involved in this ministry for the past 18 years by assisting with designing and marketing the products. By purchasing one of these bags for yourself or as a gift, you are helping these ladies who are in a very challenging situation to make a living.
