CONGRATULATIONS also go to Shivan & Daliya Kalash (our adopted family from Syria) on the birth of their baby girl! Lauren Kalash was born on Tuesday, October 2nd, and was welcomed home by big sisters Mariyam & Lappareem.

THE CHURCH OFFICE will be closed Monday for Columbus day.

QUESTIONS FOR SPIRITUAL GROWTH: For the next few weeks we will be featuring a different selection each week from the list of questions that our church elders wrote to help guide us as individuals and a congregation during 2018. The questions are based on our Hopes and Commitments Statement, with the themes of Loving, Learning and Listening. If you would like to have a complete copy of the Questions for Spiritual Growth or the Hopes and Commitments Statement, you can pick one up from the kiosk, or find them on the church website. This week’s question: “Where can I participate in bringing the hope of God’s Kingdom within my family, neighborhood, community, and world?”

MISSIONARIES, Russell & Sarah Badgley are in the Houston area receiving treatment for their son Matteo, who has been suffering with seizure like episodes. He is doing better, but doctors are still trying to determine what is causing the seizures. One of their daughters had knee surgery a few weeks ago and is slowly recuperating and their other son has been recovering from a virus. They are praying about their return to Ecuador and for the Lord’s timing. Please lift the Badgley’s in prayer for healing and peace during this difficult time.

A FLU SHOT CLINIC will take place on Sunday, October 21st from 9:30-11:30 a.m. No appointment is necessary, just stop by the Coffee Café to get your shot. The high dose shots for senior citizens will also be available. Bring your insurance card with you as many plans cover the cost of flu shots.

YOU ARE WARMLY INVITED to a wedding shower for Maggie Roher and Luke Thomas on Sunday, October 28th from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. in the Coffee Café. This is a come-and-go event, and spouses and families are encouraged to attend! Maggie and Luke are registered at Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, Amazon, and Pottery Barn. See you there!

FAMILY PROMISE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Our next week to host Family Promise is coming up on October 14th-21st. We are looking for one or two people to help provide the Saturday evening meal, and 5 more overnight host volunteers. If you would like to volunteer please contact Desiree Trevino or Beth Skeeter.

FALL BEACH RETREAT: Sign up now for our all-church fall retreat November 9th -11th! This year’s retreat will be a bit different from previous years – instead of going to a camp we’ll be staying at beach houses in Galveston. The retreat is open for all ages – adults, students, and children, either individuals or families. The cost of $100 for adults and $75 for 3 years through high school includes 2 nights of lodging in beach houses as well as 4 meals. There is no charge for children under 3. The weekend will include 2 worship times, some optional group activities, and plenty of free time for enjoying the beach, exploring Galveston, relaxing on your own, or having fun with new friends. Reserve your spot by filling out one of the registration forms on the kiosk and turning it in with your payment. The deadline to register is approaching! If you have questions, contact Bobby, Janet or Josiah at the church office.

CAN YOU HELP TO RESTOCK OUR FOOD PANTRY? We are approaching the time of year when we receive the most requests for food assistance. If you could pick up a few extra items to donate to the food pantry while you are doing your own grocery shopping, your help would be a great blessing! Items most needed at this time are (unopened and still in date) peanut butter, jelly, canned vegetables, pasta sauce, rice and dried beans. Items can be placed in the wicker basket marked “Food Pantry” located in the Coffee Café. Another idea: Think about organizing a food drive where you work or in one of the groups that you belong to. A complete food pantry donation list is available on the kiosk.

TICKETS ARE ON SALE for a delicious BBQ lunch which will be served following the worship service on Sunday, October 14th! All proceeds will benefit our missions fund, so you have a chance to enjoy some of Travis Mantell’s amazing BBQ while also helping to support the work of our missionaries around the world. “Early bird” pricing for BBQ tickets, now through October 10th, is $7 for children 10 and under, and $12 for age 11 through adults. The prices after October 10th will be $10 and $15, so stop by the Coffee Café to get your tickets early. If you have offered to make a dessert, please bring it to the gym kitchen before the service on October 14th. While you are at the BBQ, take a moment to look at the beautiful quilted bags from China that Celesta Rea has available for sale. Proceeds help to support the “Hands of Hope” ministry to disabled Chinese women. Celesta has been involved in this ministry for the past 18 years by assisting with designing and marketing the products. By purchasing one of these bags for yourself or as a gift, you are helping these ladies who are in a very challenging situation to make a living.
