SERMON: David Bridges
1 Kings 3.4-15
THE FLOWERS ON THE ALTAR TODAY are given By Paul and Janis Street, with thanks for our church family and the blessings of love, friendship and helping hands. We could not have survived this past year without all three. “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful.” Colossians 3:15
MEALS ON WHEELS is in need of volunteers both for permanent routes as well as substitutes. The next week of our responsibility is October 29th – November 2nd. One day during that week you will meet at the church at 11:30 and drive or ride with a driver on one of the two routes. It takes about 1 1/2 hours. Please call Darleen Latimer if you would like to volunteer. Thanks for your willingness to help with this crucial ministry.
YOU ARE WARMLY INVITED to a wedding shower for Maggie Roher and Luke Thomas TODAY, October 28th from 1:00 to 2:30 in the Coffee Café. This is a come-and-go event, but we will have some “get to know you” games and a time of prayer at approximately 1:30. Spouses and families are encouraged to attend! Maggie and Luke are registered at Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Amazon, and Pottery Barn. See you there!
BIBLE QUIZ PIE SALE: Our Bible Quiz Team students are taking orders for homemade pies. The cost is $20 for pumpkin pies and $25 for pecan or apple pies. You can place your order at the table in the Coffee Café before and after the service. The students will take orders today through November 11th. The pies will be available for pick up at the church on Sunday morning, November 18th. If you have questions, please contact Josiah Brown at Josiah@friendswoodfriends.org or 405-240-6680. OUR ANNUAL THANKSGIVING DINNER will take place on Sunday, November 18th at 5:00 p.m. – a delicious catered dinner of turkey, ham and all the trimmings. For this event you will need to purchase tickets in advance; they will not be available at the door. You can get them in the Coffee Café following the worship services TODAY or November 11th at a cost of $15 per ticket for adults and teens, or $10 per ticket for ages 6-12 (kids age 5 and under are free). You can also purchase tickets at the church office during the week. The last date to get tickets will be Wednesday, November 14th so that we can provide a final count to the caterer. There will not be an auction following the dinner this year, but we will enjoy a delicious meal, some music and the opportunity to spend time together as a church family as we celebrate and give thanks for God’s many blessings to us. Please join us!

If you have a request that you would like us to add to the list, you can call or email the church office. If the request is for someone else, please check with them to be sure they are willing to have it posted on the site before you contact us. LADIES – SAVE THE DATE for our 2019 Women’s Retreat! We will be returning to Camp Tejas from February 1st – 3rd, 2019; make plans now to join us! More information about the retreat will be available this fall, but meanwhile, mark your calendar!
A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone who helped during our Family Promise hosting week! You did an amazing job of showing Christ’s love to the families who were our guests. Mark your calendar for January 13-20, 2019 which will be our next time to host. We can always use more volunteers for everything from bringing food to helping with set up or tear down, or spending one night at the church.
KIDS’ HOPE is in need of a few more men to volunteer as mentors this year! Our Kids Hope program partners adults in our congregation with students from Westwood and Bales schools. The participants are students who teachers or administrators believe could benefit significantly from the kind of one-on-one mentoring relationships provided by Kids’ Hope. Mentors meet with students for one hour each week during normal school hours to serve as a positive role model and friend for their student. For more information if you are interested in volunteering, please contact Beth Stanfield or Bobby Kirkpatrick.
