ARE YOU LOOKING for a Christmas gift for the person who has everything? Instead of spending hours at the mall shopping for a gift that may never be used, why not honor a loved one with a gift from the 2018 EFM Christmas catalog that will truly make a difference in someone’s life? For more information pick up a catalog from the kiosk, or go to friendsmission.com.
ADVENT STORIES have become an important part of our Christmas traditions here at Friendswood Friends Church. Over the coming weeks, 4 different members of our congregation will be sharing stories with us of the ways that Christ has come to their lives. If you miss a Sunday, you will find audio recordings of some of these stories (as well as some stories from previous years) on our church website. Stop by the Christmas trees in the Worship Center and the Coffee Café to look at the ornaments and remember those who have shared their stories with us in the past. During this Advent season, think about your own story, and reflect on the ways that Christ has been at work in your life. Then consider sharing those stories – with one another, with family members, with friends or colleagues.
MARK YOUR CALENDAR for January 13th – 20th, 2019 which will be our next time to host Family Promise. We can always use more volunteers for everything from bringing food to helping with set up or tear down, or spending one night at the church.
LADIES – ONLINE REGISTRATION for our 2019 Women’s Retreat “Craving Connection” is now open. We will be returning to Camp Tejas from February 1st – 3rd, 2019; make plans now to join us! Register at https://tithe.ly/event-registration/#/491538 . If you have any questions please email Kody Shepherd!
READ THROUGH THE BIBLE – You are invited to join with others in our church in reading through the entire Bible during the coming year. Pick up a reading plan from the kiosk for a list of readings which contain scripture selections for each day as well as a daily Psalm to pray through. This year we are using a plan from The Bible Project. Along with the schedule of readings, the website https://thebibleproject.com/ has other resources such as videos with background information on each book of the Bible. For 2019, Pastor David Bridges will host a monthly gathering for questions and reflections on the readings of the previous month. These will take place in the Coffee Café on the second Sunday of every month right after the worship service, beginning on January 13th. Everyone is welcome – mark your calendar!
MOST OF US WANT TO BE MORE LIKE JESUS. In fact, being like Jesus is one way to define the Christian life. But most of us could use some help and guidance while we actually try to become like Jesus. Dallas Willard’s and Jan Johnson’s “training manual,” titled, “Renovation of the Heart in Daily Practice” provides just such help and guidance. You’re invited to learn from this manual early next year by joining a group led by Jon Kerr. More information about the group’s starting time and requirements are coming soon.
FINANCIAL UPDATE: As we approach the end of 2018, our income is tracking at about 97% of what we had budgeted. Though we celebrate our current financial status, we are also preparing for significant expenditures because of increased insurance premiums and facility repair and remodeling needs. So, we hope that your year-end giving will help us to meet some of these additional financial needs we anticipate in the coming months. Again, thank you so much for your faithful giving, not only financially, but also for the many ways that you give your time and talents to serve the Lord, this church and our community!
