BULLETIN ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR FEBRUARY 17, 2019

SERMON: Josiah Brown
“Parables & The Mustard Seed Kingdom”
Matthew 13:24-35

OUR HEARTFELT SYMPATHY goes to the family of Jennifer Linder Tomko, who passed away on February 6th on her 42nd birthday. Jennifer is the daughter of former members Danny and Nina Linder.  Please pray for her family and her 4 children – Evan Requardt, Chase Sipes, and Joey and Danielle Tomko.

MEALS ON WHEELS is in need of volunteers both for permanent routes as well as substitutes. The next week of our responsibility is March 4th – 8th. One day during that week you will meet at the church at 11:30 and drive or ride with a driver on one of the two routes. It takes about 1 1/2 hours. Please contact Darleen Latimer if you would like to volunteer.  Thanks for your willingness to help with this crucial ministry.

THE PRIMETIMERS RODEO LUNCHEON will take place this Thursday, Feb. 21st at 11:30 a.m. We will enjoy a Barbeque Lunch with all the trimmings while we are entertained by our good friend Dennis Rundell, who will perform some country western hits, old hymns and some praise songs. A love offering will be collected for Dennis. Come, bring a friend, your favorite desert (if you can), and join in on the fun!

FRIENDS DISASTER SERVICE is in need of a place to park/store two trailers and one RV. If you have property and would be willing to have the trailers parked on it, please contact Kim Page.

REGISTRATION FOR OUR 2019 VBS will take place again TODAY only for those who are part of our congregation. There will be volunteers in the Coffee Café before and after the worship services today and also on the 24th to assist you in getting your children or grandchildren registered. We encourage you to take advantage of this protected registration time, because we are expecting to fill up very quickly once registration opens to the community in March. Our 2019 Vacation Bible School will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on June 24th – 28th. This year’s theme is Roar: Life is wild, God is Good. VBS is open to children from age 3 through completing 5th grade. The $30 registration fee includes a VBS T-shirt, daily snacks, crafts and games, water day, songs, stories, and making new friends. VBS VOLUNTEERS: It takes over 100 volunteers to put on our VBS, so junior and senior high students and adults are encouraged to consider helping out. You can register to volunteer during the above times, or online beginning on March 4th. If you have questions about VBS or volunteering, please contact Janet Black for more information.

SAVE THE DATE – The “Children of the World” choir will present a concert in the Worship Center on Sunday, February 24th at 6 p.m. This year’s choir features children from Nepal, Uganda and the Philippines. Their program will use song, dance, spoken word and creative media to highlight the needs of children around the world, with a special focus this year on refugees. There is no charge for the concert, but a freewill offering will be taken for the ministry of the sponsoring organization, World Help.

PLEASE PRAY FOR AMANDA DUDLEY, one of our high school students who will be participating in a mission trip over spring break. Amanda and her father Brian will travel to Latin America with East-West ministries, an organization that focuses on evangelism and discipleship among the world’s unreached people groups. (For security purposes, they have been asked not to share trip details or the exact location.) Along with supporting the Dudleys in prayer for this trip, those who are interested will have an opportunity to help financially by purchasing Ecuadorian accessories that Amanda will have available in the Coffee Café today and next Sunday. She will be offering alpaca fiber shawls and leather hair accessories for a suggested donation, with all proceeds helping with trip expenses. Thank you for your prayers and encouragement for the Dudleys, as well as for other students as they seek ways to serve others, draw nearer to God and learn more about ministry.

LADIES, YOU ARE WARMLY WELCOMED to a bridal shower for Ashley Bridges, who is marrying Zac Melcher in April here at Friendswood Friends Church. The bridal shower will be held in the Coffee Cafe this Saturday, February 23rd from 10-11:30 a.m. Because she is residing in Washington DC at this time, the hostesses are requesting that large gifts be sent directly to Ashley’s apartment. If you purchase them from Bed, Bath and Beyond or Amazon.com, where the couple is registered, Ashley’s address is listed there. Otherwise, we are planning on showering her with gift cards or small items that she can carry in a suitcase on the airplane. Gift card suggestions are TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Target, Banana Republic, Nordstrom, DSW and Costco. We hope to see you there.

YOU ARE INVITED to a come-and-go bridal shower in honor of Sara Brown on Saturday afternoon, February 23rd from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sara, who is the daughter of Ronnie & Susan Brown and granddaughter of Floyd & Marjorie Brown, will be getting married to her fiancé Justin Thorne next month in Nacogdoches, Texas. Justin and Sara are registered at Target and Amazon.com. Please stop by on the 23rd to share your congratulations and best wishes with Sara and her family.

DO YOU SHOP ON AMAZON? If so, please consider designating Friendswood Friends Church as your preferred charity through the “Amazon Smile” Program, and Amazon will donate .5% of your total purchase amount to the church at no extra cost to you. You can do this by following this link: https://smile.amazon. com/ch/74-1300 892 or sign up for Amazon Smile and look for Friendswood Friends Church on the list of eligible charities. Once you have designated a charity, you can access Amazon through the website smile.amazon.com instead of amazon.com, and the church will automatically receive your contribution. It’s a simple way to help support the ministries of our church at no cost to you! Contact the church office if you have questions.

YOU ARE INVITED to attend a volunteer training session for Family Promise. These sessions are a great opportunity to learn more about this ministry and how we can most effectively serve our guests. Anyone is welcome to attend, and it does not involve any kind of commitment for future service. Whether you have already been involved in helping out with Family Promise or are just curious and would like to know more, we encourage you to attend one of these sessions.  Some upcoming dates are:

·     Sunday, February 24th, 1:30-2:30 p.m. – Taylorcrest Condos Clubhouse, 1500 Bay Area Blvd.

·     Sunday, March 31st, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 pm – Seabrook United Methodist Church
