TO MY CHERISHED CHURCH FAMILY: The words “thank you” are completely inadequate to express my gratitude to all of you for last Sunday’s recognition of my 20 years as a member of our church staff. I was surprised and deeply touched by everyone’s kind words and the very generous gift – thank you so much to all of you who were a part of that. I am also extremely grateful for all of the ways that you have blessed and encouraged me over these past 20 years. One of the great privileges of my position at the church is having a “front row seat” to see some of what God is doing in you and through you. So many of you are role models to me; you inspire me to want to be more Christ-like and to follow your example of serving faithfully. It is a joy to partner with you in ministry! With heartfelt gratitude, Joyce Byrne

I AM SO BLESSED and thankful for Friendswood Friends Church and community. I appreciate all the lovely and thoughtful things that you have done to make this birthday such a special and memorable time! Many thanks to you all! – Ona Mae Worden

COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS for the 2019-2020 Patricia Spencer Allen Scholarship are now available. If you are interested in applying, stop by the church office to pick up an application packet, or you can download the forms from our church website. The deadline for submitting applications is May 1st.

PLANS ARE UNDERWAY for our “Summer Sundays” breakfasts, which will take place in the Coffee Café on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. beginning on May 19th.  For the past several summers these have provided a great time of fellowship for those who attend, as well as a delicious breakfast. This year we are trying to set up a rotation of helpers so that the same people won’t be in the kitchen every Sunday. Would you be willing to commit to helping out for a specific Sunday or two?  The menus are planned in advance and the food is purchased ahead of time; so all we need is a few extra helpers between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. to help set up the serving tables, cook the food, etc. One or more of our experienced cooks will be there to be in charge and let you know what to do. If you are willing to help on one or more Sundays between May 19th and August 4th, please contact Janet Black to let her know when you are available – janet@friendswoodfriends.org or 281-482-7821.

YOU ARE INVITED to an Open House at the Family Promise Day Center TODAY from 1 to 5 p.m. Stop by to meet the Family Promise staff and board members, and to enjoy some fun family activities. If you’d like to bring some environmentally-safe cleaning supplies to help the center, check out the Family Promise website for a list of needed items – www.ccfamilypromise.org
