Joshua 3 & 4

REMINDER:  The church office will be closed on Thursday, August 8th.  This is the final week of our summer office schedule; we will be back to regular office hours of 8:30-4:30 Monday through Thursday and 8:30-noon Friday for the start of the school year.

FRIENDS CENTER WILL BE CLOSED from Monday, August 5th through Friday, August 9th during remodeling of the bathrooms. There will be some ongoing construction after the 9th, but we hope to be able to continue with regularly scheduled activities after that date, once the bathrooms are functioning again. Thank you for your patience as we work to make our facilities more attractive and functional.

OUR SENIOR PASTOR, David Bridges, is on Sabbatical this summer and will return to our worship on September 15th. Please feel free to reach out to our associate pastor, Bobby Kirkpatrick, while David is away. We invite you to pray for David to be refreshed and renewed through his Sabbatical experience.

PROMOTION SUNDAY will take place next Sunday, August 11th! Children age 2 ½ through 5th grade will meet together in the gym at 9 a.m. for a special back-to-school party; their regular age-level classes will resume the following week. Junior High and High School students will meet upstairs in Friends Center; we welcome incoming 6th graders to our student ministries program! An adult class led by Matt Wilber will also resume next Sunday; the group meets in the Brides’ Room and all adults are welcome.

JUNIOR & SENIOR HIGH LAKE PARTY The annual Back to School Lake Parties are here! We’ll meet at Stutzmans’ on Sunday, August 11th. The Junior High party will be from 5-7 p.m. and Senior High from 7-9 p.m. Incoming 9th graders – this is the first event for you to attend as part of the Senior High group! Incoming 6thgraders are invited to be a part of the Junior High group. Hotdogs and hamburgers will be served. Invite your friends and join us for some summer fun!

A MEETING FOR PARENTS OF JUNIOR & SENIOR HIGH STUDENTS will take place on Sunday, August 11th between the two Lake Parties. We hope that parents will join us from 6:45-7:15 .m. while picking up your Junior Higher or dropping off your Senior Higher. Student Pastor, Josiah Brown will be talking about the year to come, handing out calendars, talking about ways you can help, and answering any questions you might have. For more information, contact josiah@friendswoodfriends.org.

SPECIAL THANKS to all of the volunteers who got up early to cook breakfast for our Summer Sundays! The delicious breakfasts and the fellowship with others have been a great blessing. We are also very grateful to those who were willing to share about how God is at work in their lives and lead the time of reading and prayer. Your words were an encouragement to us as well as a challenge to be open to God’s work in our own lives. Today is our last “Summer Sunday” for this year; thank you to EVERYONE who helped to make it a great success.

TWEENS begins a new term on Thursday, August 15th, starting at 3:15 p.m. in the Friends Center Gym. This is for kids in the 4th and 5th grades.

ATTENTION those in your 20s and 30s! We will be starting a new Sunday School class, led by Michelle and Joe Hancock, on Sunday, August 18th, in the far right room past the kitchen in the Friends Center. Anyone in their 20s and 30s is welcome! Class will meet from 9-9:45 am before heading over to 10 a.m. worship. Come join us!

THE KOINONIA SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS is delaying their fall start date to Sunday, September 8th due to the travel schedules of leaders and class members. All adults are welcome to visit the class to give it a try. They meet on the first floor of Friends Center in Room 303.

PARSONAGE UPDATE: The committee tasked with selling the parsonage has selected a broker to help list, market, and sell the property. Kelly Hutchinson of Colliers International Houston, Inc. will represent the church as our listing broker. Several brokers replied to our request for proposal and after careful study of qualifications, experience, and proposed marketing strategies, the committee made its decision.

KIDS’ HOPE needs new volunteers to work as either mentors, prayer partners, or substitute mentors this year! Our Kids Hope program partners adults in our congregation with students from Westwood and Bales schools. The participants are students whom teachers or administrators believe could benefit significantly from the kind of one-on-one mentoring relationships provided by Kids’ Hope. Mentors meet with students for one hour each week during normal school hours to serve as a positive role model and friend for their student. Prayer partners are assigned to pray for the mentors and students, and substitutes are placed on a call sheet to help sub for mentors who might have a conflict with their assigned meeting times. For more information if you are interested in serving in one of these positions (we need people in all 3!), please contact Beth Stanfield beth@stanfieldproperties.com or Bobby Kirkpatrick at bobby@friendswoodfriends.org.
