BULLETIN ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR SEPTEMBER 22, 2019

Message: David Bridges
“A Good Metaphor”

THE FLOWERS ON THE ALTAR TODAY are given by Roger and Cindy Crutchfield in celebration of their 31st wedding anniversary.

DINNER FOR 8 TONIGHT! If you are already signed up to attend one of the Dinner for 8 gatherings, remember to meet at your host home at 5 p.m. today, If you missed out this time around, watch for announcements about more gatherings of this type in the future.

MEALS ON WHEELS is in need of volunteers. This ministry involves a very minimal time commitment – just one or two hours once every 9 weeks – but it makes a huge difference in the lives of those who receive the meals. If you would like more information about what would be involved in helping, please contact Ted Roeser. Our church’s next time to serve is the week of November 11-15.  If you volunteer you would only be helping on one of the days during the week.

BIBLE QUIZ PARENT INFO MEETING ON SEPTEMBER 29thWe’re excited to get our Bible Quiz season off and running again for this year! Interested parents and students (7th & 8th grade) are invited to attend an informational meeting on Sunday, September 29th from 4:45-5:45 p.m. upstairs in the Friends Center. We’ll discuss the travel schedule and fundraising ideas along with giving some basic information about the program. Practices will take place on Sunday evenings from 4:45 p.m. – 6 p.m. beginning on October 27th. Over the years, Bible Quiz has shown again and again why it’s been such a great program for our students. It’s a fun, competitive, and in-depth way to get students to study and memorize Scripture. Many of our high school students consider their participation in Bible Quiz to be one of their most spiritually formative experiences. We hope that all of our 7thand 8th grade students will consider giving it a try. If you have questions, contact Josiah Brown.

THE KIDS’ HOPE ministry is about to begin for the 2019-2020 school year, and we are still in need of at least 2 more male mentors. Mentors meet with students for one hour each week during school hours to serve as a positive role model and friend for their student. Prayer partners are assigned to pray for the mentors and students, and substitutes are placed on a call sheet to help sub for mentors who have a conflict with their assigned meeting times. For more information if you are interested in serving in one of these positions (we need people in all 3!), please contact Beth Stanfield at beth@stanfieldproperties.com or Bobby Kirkpatrick at bobby@friendswoodfriends.org.

LADIES: Are you interested in being a prayer partner for the girls’ youth group? A couple of weeks ago Emmi Hancock spoke during the service’s clerk’s corner with John Dawson about her Release Project, which is part of her Kaleo Academy course. She is hoping to create an inter-generational girls’ group to encourage and pray for one another. If you want to be someone who prays together with these young girls, there will be a short interest meeting after church today. If you are not able to attend the meeting you can contact Emmi.

MISSIONS BBQ LUNCH SUNDAY, OCTOBER 6TH Please join us for lunch in Friends Center immediately following the Worship Service on October 6th. All proceeds will benefit our missions fund, so you have a chance to enjoy some of Travis Mantell’s amazing BBQ while also helping to support the work of our missionaries around the world. Tickets are available in the Coffee Café today following today’s service. “Early bird” pricing (now through September 29th) is $7 for children 10 and under, and $12 for age 11 through adults. The prices after September 29th will be $10 and $15, so stop by the Coffee Café to get your tickets early. If you would be willing to bring a dessert to the BBQ, please sign up at the ticket table or email Molly Black.

THERE WILL BE a continent-wide gathering of Hispanic Friends in October at the Bayshore Friends Church (near Kemah) and our church may be able to help with housing, meals, transportation and/or other needs. If you would like to get involved or want more information, you can fill out the volunteer form on the website www.CHMonline.org or contact David Byrne

WE ALL ENJOY CELEBRATING OUR BLESSINGS, especially during the Thanksgiving season. This year we are preparing a slideshow of short glimpses of individual families and youth groups enjoying time together that you send us. Your short video clips can include picnics, dinners, and camp activities of our congregation to be shown on the screen during the Chorale’s Thanksgiving Celebration anthem with orchestra. Please send in your clips to Shannon Harris at shannon@friendswoodfriends.org. Let’s begin creating our production! Please send your pictures in by November 15th.
