“Lessons from Daniel – Speaking Truth to Power”
Daniel 6

CONGRATULATIONS go to Allen & Grace Kirkpatrick on the birth of their daughter Audrey Jane Kirkpatrick, who was born on Sunday, February 2nd. Congratulations also go to the proud grandparents Bob & Karen Kirkpatrick and Chris & Teri Hawkins and great grandmothers Barbara Kirkpatrick and Carol Cline Vaughn.

A CONGREGATIONAL BUSINESS MEETING will be held TODAY in the Coffee Café immediately following the worship service. The main topic for consideration will be to seek congregational approval for the 2020 budget that has been proposed by the Stewards and approved by the Coordinators. You can view the proposed budget on our church website – click on “news”, then “announcements” and look for the post about the budget.  The file is password protected; the password is friends (all lowercase). There are also some printed copies on the kiosk. Everyone is welcome to attend the business meeting.

INTRODUCTION TO FRIENDSWOOD FRIENDS CHURCH Would you like to know more about what this church believes and how it began? Come to this informal gathering, which is designed to help you meet others and understand our church. We will meet on Sunday, February 16th in the Brides Room immediately following the service and finish by shortly after noon. Everyone is welcome. Child care will be available by advance reservation only. Please contact the church office by Wednesday, February 12th with the ages of your children if you would like to arrange for childcare during this meeting.

JOIN US on Sunday, February 16th for a come and go “sprinkle” to welcome Hunter and Kayla Lee’s  2nd bundle of joy. Samuel Joseph Lee is expected to arrive late February and we want to sprinkle the Lees with replacements for the baby supplies Harvey washed away. Please bring any gently used baby supplies to the Coffee Café on February 16th and show the Lees some Friendswood Friends love. Hunter and Kayla are registered at Target. We are also collecting “diapers and dollars” – stop by our Baby money tree and join us for light refreshments from 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

YOU ARE INVITED to a reception honoring Ann Whitaker as she retires from her position as President of the Friendswood Historical Society. Ann has served on the Historical Society board for the past 20 years, and in the role of President for the past 10 years. The community is extremely grateful for Ann’s service and leadership over the past decades, which benefits not only current Friendswood residents but will also benefit future generations for years to come. The reception will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, February 11th at the Friendswood Public Library. Everyone is welcome.

OUR 2020 VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on June 22nd –26th. The $30 registration fee includes a VBS T-shirt, daily snacks, crafts and games, water day, songs, stories, and making new friends. If you have questions about VBS, please contact Janet Black for more information. We encourage you to take advantage of this protected registration time, because we are expecting to fill up very quickly once registration opens to the community tomorrow morning.

THE 2020 HOMETOWN FUN RUN & WALK is coming up on Saturday, April 4th. The event includes a one-mile Family Race (run or walk) and a 5K race through downtown Friendswood. All proceeds will go to missions, so this is great opportunity to meet others from our community and do something to promote your own health while also supporting a wonderful cause! Early bird registration is open now – for more details or to register, go to hometownfunrun.com. Volunteers for race day are welcome – for more info, email hometownfunrun@gmail.com

ONE OR MORE VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED for our food pantry ministry.  It just takes an hour or so each week and timing is completely flexible.  If you would like more information, please call the church office.

YOU ARE INVITED to attend The Danish Rescue Boat Installation Celebration at the Houston Holocaust Museum on Wednesday, February 12th. Our own Walt Hansen, who spent many hours restoring the “Hanne Frank”, will be one of the speakers at this event. During the early days of the Nazi occupation of Denmark, many Danish people risked their lives to help their Jewish neighbors escape the Gestapo by transporting them to safety in small fishing boats like the Hanne Frank. This display honors the compassion and heroism of those who saved the lives of about 7,500 Danish Jews during a 3-week period of 1943. The schedule for the evening is a reception at 6:30 p.m. followed by a program at 7:15, and viewing of the Danish rescue boat at 7:45. If you would like to attend, please RSVP to the Houston Holocaust Museum at (713) 942-8000. The Holocaust Museum is located at 5401 Caroline Street. Attire for the reception is business casual.

EVENT SPONSORS ARE NEEDED for the Hometown Fun Run!  If you or someone you know might be interested, please pick up a sponsorship form from the kiosk or contact Jaime Black (832-978-5569 or jaime@stanfieldproperties.com). Sponsors will be advertised on banners, race flyers and the Fun Run website as well as being announced at the event. Gold Sponsors will be featured on the race T-shirts as well as on the backdrop for pictures of the participants.  Please help spread the word to businesses that you use.

SAVE THE DATES!  Dude Camp 2020 will take place from May 28th – 31st for children completing grades 3-5. More information coming soon; registration for our congregation will open on February 16th
