BULLETIN ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR FEBRUARY 23, 2020

Message:  David Bridges
“It’s More than Enough, Lord”
1 Kings 19

ONE OR MORE VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED for our food pantry ministry. It just takes an hour or so each week and timing is completely flexible. If you would like more information, please call the church office.

LADIES’ SPRING BIBLE STUDY will begin on Wednesday, March 4th. We’ll meet in the Coffee Café on Wednesday mornings at 9:30 a.m. for 5 weeks.  Our study will be based on Bob Goff’s book Everybody, Always: Becoming Love in a World Full of Setbacks and Difficult People. All ladies are welcome – come and bring a friend! Nursery care is available.

VOLUNTEER REGISTRATION FOR VBS begins soon – online forms will be available in early March. We will need lots of adult and teen helpers so please save the dates – June 22nd-26th from 9 a.m. to noon. Students finishing 6th grade and up are welcome to volunteer. Volunteers receive a free T-shirt.

COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS for the 2020-2021 Patricia Spencer Allen Scholarship are now available. Graduating high school seniors as well as continuing undergraduate college students are invited to apply. The recipient will be chosen based on active involvement in Friendswood Friends Church, character, leadership, academic achievement, financial need and interest in Christian ministry. If you are interested in applying, stop by the church office to pick up an application packet, or you can download the forms from our church website. The deadline for submitting applications is Thursday, April 30th at 4:30 p.m.

NEW PARENTING CLASS STARTS MARCH 22!  Parenting is full of challenges. We want to raise our kids well and teach them to follow Christ. But it’s hard. At our best, we focus mostly on behavior and miss opportunities to teach wisdom. At our worst, we find ourselves modeling the opposite of what we seek to instill in our kids. Whether you feel like you need a total parenting overhaul or just a tune up, all parents are invited to join us during the Sunday School hour for a parenting course called Discipline that Connects created by the ministry Connected Families. Throughout this 8-week course, we’ll watch the video curriculum and discuss the victories and challenges of implementing this parenting framework together. We’ll start on Sunday, March 22nd; location TBA. If you have any questions, contact Brian or Kylie.

EVENT SPONSORS ARE NEEDED for the Hometown Fun Run! If you or someone you know might be interested, please pick up a sponsorship form from the kiosk or contact Jaime Black (832-978-5569 or jaime@stanfieldproperties.com). Sponsors will be advertised on banners, race flyers and the Fun Run website as well as being announced at the event. Gold Sponsors will be featured on the race T-shirts as well as on the backdrop for pictures of the participants.  Please help spread the word to businesses that you use.

THE 2020 HOMETOWN FUN RUN & WALK is coming up on Saturday, April 4th. The event includes a one-mile Family Race (run or walk) and a 5K race through downtown Friendswood. You can register any time at www.hometownfunrun.com! If you need help registering, there will be computers set up in the coffee cafe before and after the service on 3/1, 3/8, and 3/15. Sign up for the Family Race or 5k by March 15th to take advantage of the early bird prices! Registration costs will increase on March 16th. Volunteers for race day are welcome – for more info, email hometownfunrun@gmail.com. All proceeds will go to missions.

OUR MISSION AND GOAL as a women’s ministry team is to build community amongst the women of Friendswood Friends and relationships. One of our goals for 2020 is to cultivate community in meaningful ways and through daily life. If you would like to be kept up to date with upcoming events, bible studies, dinners, outings, and mentor program, text @ffcwom to 81010. (You will not be flooded with texts.)

REGISTER FOR DUDE CAMP TODAY! Our camp for students completing 3rd, 4th or 5th grade will take place from Thursday, May 28th through Sunday May 31st with the theme “Jesus is my Rock!”. Students will travel by charter bus to Forest Glen/Spring Christian Camp (near Rosebud, TX) for an amazing time of games, swimming, hiking, canoeing, zip line, climbing wall, crud war and lots of other great activities. The cost is $298 including transportation to and from camp. Registration is available for our congregation today before and after the morning service. Tomorrow morning registration will open to the community and we expect to fill up quickly, so we encourage you to take advantage of the early registration time for our congregation. This is a great first-time camp experience for kids; we hope that your child will join us!
