August 30th update from Janet Black

From our director of children’s ministries, Janet Black Hi Friends, Sabbatical: a period of leave or rest from work, according to Webster. The concept of a Sabbatical is based on the Biblical practice of Shmita. In Leviticus 25 God told Moses to plant, prune and harvest the land for six years and during the seventh year to give the land a rest. I am very thankful that you have blessed me with my first sabbatical rest. My grandmother taught us…

August 23rd update from Janet Black

Hi Friends, As the new school year begins from preschool through college, changes come. One change is that today’s Tuesday update comes from your Children’s Pastor. These changes remind me of the “first day back” for me in my childhood, my children’s and now my grandchildren’s. We have all changed but that “first day back” in the fall never seems to change, every year it happens again. We have some changes here at Friends. In the children’s department we started…

August 16th update from David Bridges

Greetings in Christ’s name! Psalm 107 begins with this imperative, “Give thanks to the Lord because he is good, because his faithful love lasts forever!”  But Psalm 107 is far from the only Psalm that instructs us to thank God.  Over and over the Psalms tell us to do so, and some tell us numerous times!  Psalm 136 for instance, urges people to give thanks to God 14 times!  Thanking God for God’s goodness, faithfulness and love is an important practice that keeps…

August 9th update from David Bridges

Greetings in Christ’s name! While Jesus seemed to have many disciples that traveled with him from time to time, he appointed 12 as his small group—perhaps choosing that number to mirror the number of the tribes of Israel.  Of the twelve, Jesus seemed to have three—Peter, James and John—who were closest to him.  It seems that Jesus knew that discipleship worked best in small groups of people.  That’s been my experience as a Jesus follower.  I’ve worshipped in churches with as many as…
