December 1st update from David Bridges

Greetings in Christ’s name! I grew up thinking that when Jesus returned, he was going to take all his faithful ones off to heaven and leave all the unfaithful ones here on earth to suffer some kind of doom.  But throughout my adolescence, I didn’t want Jesus to return because I wanted to get married and have a family before that happened—after all, Jesus had once said that at the resurrection people wouldn’t be getting married. I wasn’t astute enough…

November 24th update from David Bridges

Greetings in Christ’s name! 1st Chronicles 16:8 implores us to “Give thanks unto the Lord, call upon his name make known his deeds upon the peoples.” Some of you have heard that on Sunday evening I was hospitalized with Covid-like symptoms. The good news is that I am negative for Covid, but we are still unsure what was causing my illness. I believe I’ll be discharged this morning and look forward to returning home. Thank you for your prayers. In…

Gift bags for shut-ins

Our church is helping to provide Christmas gift bags for seniors in the greater Houston area who receive Meals on Wheels.  If you would like to help prepare some bags, please follow the instructions below for which items to include in the bag.  Bring the bags to the church by Sunday, December 13th.  Thank you for helping to bless others this Christmas season!

November 17 update from David Bridges

Greetings in Christ’s name! Just this morning, a couple people notified me that they had received emails from pastordavidbridges@gmail.com.  To be clear, that is not my email address and you can simply discard any emails that come to you from that address.   In his second letter to the Corinthians, the Apostle Paul wrote that because of Jesus, there is all kinds of newness.   “So then, if anyone is in Christ, that person is part of the new creation. The…

November 10th update from David Bridges

Greetings in the name of our Lord! Someone asked me last week about becoming a member in our church and I was reminded that our membership process is quite simple.  After one has worshipped with us for some time and has a sense of our commitments and practices, a very simple membership application can be filled out and submitted to our Coordinators for approval.  One of the questions on that application is about discipleship to Jesus.  It reads something like…

November 3rd update from David Bridges

Greetings in Christ’s name! Many of us have been eagerly awaiting this day, if for no other reason, because it means a cessation of all the political adds we’ve been subjected to!  I’m weary of hearing that this is the most important election of our lifetimes, that if one guy wins it will mean an end to life as we know it or if the other guy wins life will be ruined.  I don’t mean to downplay the importance of…

October 27th update from David Bridges

Greetings in Christ’s name!  In worship on Sunday, I spoke briefly about the collective anxiety we’re all feeling because of the political division in our country and the upcoming presidential election.  I’ve heard people express all kinds of worry about what will take place in the next several weeks.  So if you’re a bit anxious about our country’s current political scene, you’re not alone.  No matter who you vote for or what party you favor, you’re probably feeling a bit apprehensive about the…

October 20th update from David Bridges

Something that has encouraged me recently is knowing how many people are volunteering to help our church carry out its ministries in our community.  Last week, we hosted Family Promise guests on our campus, providing temporary room and board for families with children.  It took between 25 and 30 volunteers to make that happen and once again, we had people who were happy to help.  On Sundays, we usually have 8 to 10 musicians who get up early to rehearse…

BBQ lunch to go benefitting missions – Sunday, October 25

Our Friendswood Friends Church missions team is sponsoring a BBQ dinner to raise funds for missions.  Enjoy a delicious dinner and a break from cooking, while also helping to support our missionaries!  In order to keep everyone safe, this year we will be preparing “to go” plates in lieu of a sit-down dinner.  Order and pay for your plates by October 20th, and then you will simply drive through to pick up your order after morning worship on October 25th. …
