Two years ago at this very time, I was in the beginning stages of transition from teaching 7th grade math at a local intermediate to full-time ministry with students at Friendswood Friends Church. Although these last two years have been in an official capacity, I have spent more than ten years walking alongside our students, from elementary to high school. Looking back over the years, I can see that God has blessed me tremendously with the opportunity to be just one small part of the lives of students at Friendswood Friend Church.

It is with a heavy heart that I tell you I will be packing up from a place I have called home my entire life. Yet, I am also very excited about the new opportunities in Nederland, TX as I move to grow and strengthen a relationship that is important to me. How strange it has been to have both great sadness and excitement co-exist through this process. I’ve been in a long-distance relationship with Josh for two years, and I feel it’s the right time to prioritize being together in person. (Isn’t it funny how life works to have a work Josh B. and a home Josh B.?!) This decision was not made lightly or quickly as I have spent a lot of time in prayer and reflection. I’ve felt God guiding me in this direction, and I trust that He has a plan for both my personal and professional life. While I’m stepping away from this specific role, I hope to continue to stay connected to the church and visit often.

I will be here until the end of the school year and through camp (June 2025). I’m committed to helping with a smooth transition and will do everything I can to ensure a strong foundation that allows student ministries to continue to thrive as we wait for the next person whom God calls to serve the young people of Friendswood Friends Church.

Thank you for trusting me with the students of this church and for trusting me with the great privilege of walking alongside them in their faith. Thank you all for your love, support, and understanding. This church has meant so much to me, and I will always be grateful for the time I spent here as a student, as a young adult, as a volunteer, as staff, and ultimately as a follower of Jesus.

Please pray for me, my relationship with Josh, my family, our students, and our church as we navigate emotions and feelings, the logistics of transition, and all that accompanies change over the coming months. I will be praying for you and with you, trusting that God will guide us all faithfully into the future.

Blessings,
Katelyn Sanders
