Friends Disaster Service – Texas Area has the mission of exemplifying God’s love by bringing hope and encouragement to survivors of disasters such as tornados, hurricanes, floods, fires, etc.
FDS volunteers provide cleanup services and rebuild assistance to those who have been affected by these disasters. Preference is usually given to survivors who are elderly, handicapped, of low income or uninsured.
Some FDS projects have included cleaning up and rebuilding after many Gulf Coast storms (Katrina, Ike, Rita, Allison, etc.), assisting with repairs and rebuilding after tornados in Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri, sending crews to Honduras and El Salvador to help in the aftermath of hurricanes, building temporary shelters for victims of the earthquake in Haiti, and helping families whose lives have been devastated by fires and floods.
Since last September, FDS has been focusing on relief for those affected by Hurricane Harvey. Various teams from out of state have joined us in these efforts, but we could use more local volunteers.
