October 20th update from David Bridges

Something that has encouraged me recently is knowing how many people are volunteering to help our church carry out its ministries in our community.  Last week, we hosted Family Promise guests on our campus, providing temporary room and board for families with children.  It took between 25 and 30 volunteers to make that happen and once again, we had people who were happy to help.  On Sundays, we usually have 8 to 10 musicians who get up early to rehearse…

BBQ lunch to go benefitting missions – Sunday, October 25

Our Friendswood Friends Church missions team is sponsoring a BBQ dinner to raise funds for missions.  Enjoy a delicious dinner and a break from cooking, while also helping to support our missionaries!  In order to keep everyone safe, this year we will be preparing “to go” plates in lieu of a sit-down dinner.  Order and pay for your plates by October 20th, and then you will simply drive through to pick up your order after morning worship on October 25th. …

September 29th update from David Bridges

We routinely wait for all kinds of things:  for the beginning of school, for the weather to get cooler, for the time to plant mums in our gardens.  But the waiting we’ve done the past six months has been different.  We’ve been waiting for things to “return to normal” for quite a while now and it seems that we’ll be waiting for quite a while yet.  While some of us have not had to make many adjustments because of Covid-19,…

New Instructional Video – Returning to Worship (Oct. 4)

We’re excited to return to in-person (indoor) worship beginning Oct. 4th! Please watch this video for information about Covid-19 restrictions and safety procedures. David’s Tuesday email will provide additional information, including FAQs. Please let us know if you do not receive David’s once-a-week email update. Finally, thank you to the students who helped produced this video! Here it is: https://youtu.be/foNgjgtKre4.

September 26 Online Worship

This week, instead of creating a separate Sunday worship video, we encourage you to watch the recording of Saturday’s outdoor worship live stream (see below). Like usual, be sure to download the PDF file that contains song lyrics and responsive readings, so you can participate. Next Sunday will be our first in-person, indoor worship service, which will be live-streamed on the website.

Family Promise hosting week: October 11-18

Volunteers are needed for our next hosting week for the Family Promise ministry, from October 11th-18th. Since some of our regular volunteers are at higher risk for COVID, we hope that some of you who are lower risk will consider taking part in this important ministry. Here are some of the ways that you could help: Working with others to set up Friends Center before our guests arrive, helping to provide one of the evening meals or Saturday breakfast, spending…

Family Promise Volunteer Training Videos

If you have volunteered with Family Promise OR are interested in learning more about this program, we encourage you to take advantage of some brief training videos that are available to watch online at your convenience. Each of the training sessions is between 5 and 8 minutes long and covers a specific aspect of volunteer engagement. Family Promise of Clear Creek is considering this video series as the basic (Volunteer Training 1.0) training program. Information will be available soon regarding…

September 22nd update from David Bridges

Dear Friends, As I’m writing this morning the creek is creeping up behind my home to levels I haven’t seen for three years.  Normally, we can’t even see the water in the creek from our windows.  So even though we’ve seen the creek rise many times over the past two decades, it’s still somewhat shocking to see how high it can get and how quickly it can flow.  But I don’t get as anxious as I used to when the…
