Children and Youth Service Opportunities – Helping others is a value that we want to pass on to our children and youth, so we do all that we can to provide opportunities for them to engage in local ministry from an early age!
Kids from 3 to 11 years old are eligible to participate in our Wednesday evening “Kids Can Do” club. This group engages in many fun activities to help others. Recent projects have included baking cookies to send to soldiers, decorating flower pots and growing flowers to deliver to local retirement homes, making crafts and gifts to take to Meals on Wheels clients, baking dog biscuits to take to the local dog pound, Christmas caroling at the homes of shut-ins, and creating kits of snack foods and toiletries for our congregation to distribute to homeless people.
Our teens are very active in volunteering for our own Vacation Bible School as well as traveling to Oyster Creek to participate in the ministry to that community. Many of our teens normally spend their spring break each year doing service projects for others. This has included doing repairs and yard work for senior citizens in our own community, as well as work projects in northern Mexico or on Indian reservations in the U.S. And over the summer months, our youth volunteer each Tuesday with different non-profit ministries throughout the Houston area.
Our youth have provided much of the initiative and volunteer hours for our work in the area of human trafficking, and also assist with the Family Promise ministry.
