“Don’t Be Afraid; Just Keep Trusting”

As our journey through the narrative lectionary continues, we begin to notice how Mark shows us several accounts of who Jesus is and what he is about. In Mark 5, two miracles take place right next to one another. The societal contrast between the two people in need can’t be ignored, nor can the similarity of faith in Jesus. What can be learned from their stories, then? While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?”  Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.” Mark 5: 35-36
