At FUSE and CORE this past Sunday I walked our students through Lectio Divina, meaning divine reading. Lectio Divina is a contemplative process or tool used to help read and pray through scripture. I selected a short reading, John 15:12-17 (NIV), and our students collectively followed the “4R” process: reading, reflection, response, and remaining (rest).
My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. This is my command: Love each other. – John 15:12-17 (NIV)
During step one, Lectio (reading), you land on a word or phrase in the passage after reading it slowly several times. In the past, when I read this passage, my focus was heavy on the command to love. This past Sunday, God brought a different phrase to my attention. Each time I read through these five verses of John, three words from verse 16 kept grabbing my attention, “I chose you.” Doubting myself and my abilities, wondering if I am enough, and desiring to be known are all thoughts and feelings that can start to creep into my self-talk. Thankfully this week, God reminded me that He has chosen me, and I am deeply loved, known, and cared for by Him. May you be reminded of that truth this week, that He has chosen you, you are deeply loved, you are known, and you are cared for by Him.
Blessings,
Katelyn

Scuba VBS Save the Dates!
On July 8-12, kids ages 3 years old – 5th grade will take a deep dive into a friendship with God at Scuba VBS. Registration for VBS will open to church families before and after the worship service on February 25 and March 3. Be sure to save these dates and be looking for more information to come soon.
Shower Ministry
The Shower Ministry to the Homeless has been busy with the cold weather the last few weeks supplying warm clothing to those in need. There is currently a large demand for new or used men’s jeans and sweatpants. If you feel led to donate these items, they can be dropped off at the double doors outside the education building. We greatly appreciate your continued support of this ministry.
Funeral Information
Our heartfelt sympathy goes to the family of Mills Donald Wood. Donald (also known as “Woody”) was a long-time member of our church who passed away earlier this month. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, January 27th at 10:00 am in the Chapel. Please remember the family in your prayers.
Family Promise Host Dates
Save the date! The next Family Promise Host Week is coming up, February 4-11. From staying the evening as an overnight host, to making a meal and dining with families, to setting up rooms for guests; it takes many volunteers to make the week a success. We are so grateful for how each of you serves to help make the families in the program feel welcome. More details coming soon.
He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven. Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love… Psalms 107:29-31
