“Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10)
Be still. Such simple words and a scripture verse that many have heard over and over, yet lately I have had a hard time practicing….to be still. Especially in light of the last 8 weeks. It has been such a delight settling into my new position as Children’s Pastor! I have loved the encouragement and support I have received from so many of you, knowing that I had big shoes to fill.
However, in the transition, there have been many changes taking place as simple as a fresh paint job in my office to implementing a new check-in system. In all the excitement I have taken little time to be still, yet that is what I am called to do. My daily routine of quiet time in the morning has seemed a little more rushed and I haven’t been diligent to take time to pause throughout the day for a moment of prayer.
In Bill Gaultiere’s book, Your Best Life in Jesus’ Easy Yoke, he talks of an interview he had with Dallas Willard. Bill asked Dallas to describe Jesus in one word, and his reply “relaxed”. Jesus, having only three years to save the earth, still fed multitudes of people, napped amid a storm at sea, and pulled away frequently to pray alone.
“Lord, help me to find the space in my day where I can walk with You, where my time with You is not just about my lists and petitions, but where I can listen to You and just be with You. Help me to walk slowly and deeply with you through the hours and minutes of this day—that I might find all of you that is to be found within it. Allow me not to miss you because of hurry or busyness but let me sense the fullness of your presence in each moment. Slow down both my feet and my heart so that I might be more present to you as I go about my normal activities” (The Blue Book by Jim Branch).
Be blessed this week as you take time to be still.

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. Romans 10:9-10
