In 1 Samuel, the people of Israel ask God for a king, so they may be ruled like other nations. The Old Testament provides a contrast between two kings of Israel: one that shows what it means to live for self-preservation, and one, “the man after God’s heart”, that provides the lineage for the king that will reign forever. We can use this eternal king, Jesus, as our ultimate model for leadership.
