Isaiah is a vast book that covers a lot of the history of the Israelite people. Jesus regularly turned to passages from Isaiah to quote in his ministry. The lectionary passage this week comes from Isaiah 5: 1-7. A beautifully written passage of warning that could feel defeating if the story ended here, but the passage is also paired with Isaiah 11:1-5. Though God destroys the field, a shoot will rise up.
