Joshua grew up in southeast Kansas next door to a rural Friends church. That church helped cultivate his faith at a young age, and as a young teenager, he first sensed that he was being led into ministry. After graduating high school, Joshua followed in the footsteps of several of his mentors by attending Barclay College, a Bible college in south-central Kansas. While attending Barclay College, Joshua gained valuable education and experience in various areas of ministry and met and married his wife, Marcy.

Upon graduating, Joshua stayed on to work at the college as a Resident Director, while beginning graduate work at Friends University. After two years, Joshua and Marcy moved to the Oregon coast where Joshua finished up his graduate work at George Fox Evangelical Seminary. While in Oregon, Joshua served on pastoral staff for five years at Netarts Friends Church in Netarts, Oregon.

At the conclusion of five years, Joshua took a position as a professor at his alma mater, Barclay College, where he served for 14 years, the last eight of which he was the chair of Bible and Theology.

In the Spring of 2023, Joshua received a call from Friendswood Friends Church asking him to consider joining the pastoral team. Joshua, Marcy, and their 3 children discerned that this was a new direction that God was leading them to and transplanted to Friendswood Friends Church in July 2023.
