Vacation Bible School begins next week. Our campus will be transformed into another planet as Janet and her volunteers create an out-of-this-world experience to Share Jesus’s Light with the 250+ children signed up to participate. Keep Janet, the volunteers, and the children in your prayers as God’s word SHINES on our campus. We will be hosting a free picnic on July 16th after the service. Please stay, enjoy the meal, and welcome the families from VBS to celebrate how Jesus’s Light Shines. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be served.
FISD Community Faith Partners Mentor Volunteers Needed: In the past, we partnered with KidsHope USA to provide adult mentors to students at Westwood/Bales. After Covid, we began to phase this program out. In the last year, the counselors on these campuses have recognized a growing need to bring this type of mentorship back. We will be working with the district’s existing Faith Partners program to provide support to students in need. If you are available to meet with a student for thirty minutes to an hour once a week or serve as a substitute, please reach out to Bobby and let him know you are interested.
Family Promise Opportunity: Our church is hosting Family Promise the third week of November and Desiree Trevino will not be able to oversee setup that week. She needs a volunteer to shadow her right after church on Sunday, August 13 for about an hour. Then this person would be the setup coordinator after church on Sunday, November 19. Contact Joyce if you would be willing to serve in this role.
Eddie Rollins 95th Birthday Party is July 19 from 2:00-4:00 pm in the coffee café. Join us for cake and celebration. Eddie has requested that donations be made to the shower ministry for the homeless instead of gifts. Needs for the shower ministry include men’s underclothes, men’s pants, travel-size toiletries, and wipes; financial gifts toward the shower ministry are also welcome (checks should be made out to the church with shower ministry in the memo).
Also on July 19, women are invited to a second Women’s Summer Night Conference. Join us as we worship together from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm in the coffee café. A catered meal will be provided. Save the date! On Sunday, July 30th we will be celebrating Janet Black as she retires from her role as director of children’s ministries. Please join us immediately after the worship service to help thank Janet for the many ways that she has blessed our children and our entire congregation during her 21 years of ministry here.
